  1. Charlie, Will call tomorrow, but NEO will not be fishing now ( Dave unable to fish ) so I am fishing on Phaeton. cheers Paul
  2. Bought a Philips DTR100 Freeview box ( to replace my video sender destroyed by lightning ). After 15 mins the sound a video lose sync big time. Searched the internet and blow me down I find a site where over 20 people have reported the same fault. If getting one - steer clear of this model.

Doggy / Dave, Would that be one you have for sale yourself by any chance
  4. Happy Birthday Mike. Have a good one.
  5. Heard the news on the BBC - terrible news.
  6. The herald -
  7. Indeed, enjoy yourself on here and hopefully you will find a mine of information.
  8. Kam, We too found mackeral were only coming in single fish every 5 mins or so. In the same spot the day before it was teaming with mackeral, so I presume the rough sea have sent them inshore ( since when we moved to Terry's recommended spot ( where there was around 20 boats sheltering it out under Hengistbury Head ) we had full stringers every drop.
  9. Nice to see you out there but it was rather lumpy wasn't it !! and you crew did look decidedly peaky ( I wasn't feeling too great myself to be honest. ). I was fishing on Manatee ( with Les L ) and managed to catch a succession of dogfish until you anchored close by and pulled out that lovely thornie 5 mins after anchoring -w ell pleased, it surely was heading for my mackeral at least it proved to me we had the correct mark ( I estimated it from the GPS map ). Still , it was nice to get out again ( although brownie points are now in negative territory ..... ) and I got a drive of Manatee as well ( interesting to compare how the 165 handles the choppy sea compared to the Orkney ( the heavier weight means it slams less but it is livelier to steer ). Also, amazing difference in gunwall height ( much smaller on the Orkney - I can clean my hands in the sea easily on the Orkney but it is a long way down on the 165. Have to say the 165 is impressive and if I were buying a new boat and didnt have a 520 I would have chosen one. Next boat though needs a cabin and around 20FT length and must be trailable ( I am thinking Day Angler 19+ or 20 at the moment )
  10. These people ( one of our site sponsors ) do an anchor retrieval ring complete with buoy. Anchor Yanka For a Warrior you will need this one I believe :- Anka Yanka attached to a H/Duty 50
  11. Had just the one fish in 3 hours fishing ( Decided to run out for a solo trip - 19 knots on Neo one up ). It was worth the trip out - 5lb Bass. Perseverence was worthwile. Strangely though I was fishing a mackeral fillet which had been decimated by the bream, leaving a manky piece of skin left on the hook and another rod with a live joey. Guess which one the Bass took
  12. I shall be presenting a cheque for

    Opinions??

Done some calculations on Neo ( Orkeny 520 with 30HP 4Stroke Honda ). Put on the 12 litre tank and carried the 25 litre tank in the front ( in a vain attempt to distribute weight better ). Myself and Paul J travelled out from Wick to X-Ray in a slightly lumpy sea ( wind against tide ). Fished and then travelled over to Barton ( on a flatter sea by now ). Flat out all the way ( ie. 13-15 knots ). Fished Barton and then came back to Wick. Total distance travelled was 18 Nautical Miles and the 12 litre tank ran out halfway up Christchurch Harbour. Therefore just under 1.5 NM per litre.
  14. Nice fish Sam. What is next then ? - mullet ? Was that the same wreck you got the pollock on before or one further out ? PS: You were better out there than in the Solent - smoothies seem to be scare there at the moment - in fact any fish which isn't a dogfish or schoolie ! ( we couldn't find any smoothies and spoke to another boat who had noticed the same ).

Adam, You will find that Boatinsure are the same insurance company ( but direct ) that Porthcawl use. ( Amlin insurance ) - or at least they were the same one I got quoted for.
  17. Mike, Mackeral aplenty on Southbourne Rough on Saturday. Not many fish apart from mackeral though

    Opinions??

or on the other hand you could get a Boston Whaler with a 75 HP Mercury 2 Stroke and go from Bridge Street in Christchurch to X-Ray ( ie. Southbourned Rough ) and back on 25 litres of fuel .....
  19. Rich, Have a great catching holiday in Florida
  20. Could be up for an early trip on the Saturday ( will need to be back for party in evening ). Will need crew though, although could go alone I guess or do you have crew PJ ?
  21. Kam, A folding "speedboat" anchor will hold my boat on the shambles with a 5 knot tide running ( possibly having dragged to some obstruction first though, but it was easy enough to retrieve ! ). I use mine to slow my drift when plaice fishing and as a backup anchor in case of loss of the main one.

  23. Gordon, Can you show me how to catch stingray please
  24. Carry 2 stroke oil for the auxilary which I never take with me anymore as I cant get the damn thing to start now Still useful when others need some 2stroke oil.
  25. Dan, I was thinking more Sunday afternoon/evening ( gives me time to recover from Sat evening ) but have to check tides yet. ( Weather forecast is good at the moment ). Downside is it is bank holday weekend and bound to be busy + bound to have to pay so could be persuaded to go for the early start and then spend rest of Sunday recovering
