    Steering Death

Mark, The steering is the original and having had it replaced by L&J Marine I can see the reason the cable broke - well corroded inside. Whilst there I had my engine software updated as well. Have done 76 hours at range of revs ( mainly around 4000 RPM ) and the engine failed to reach proper operating temp once at 43 hours in. Amazing how clever the Engine Management systems are nowdays
  3. On return from the fishing trip on Tuesday, I steamed up to the slipway at Wick and swung the wheel around to steam alongside the wall at which point I felt something break and had no steering at all. Grabbed the engine and turned it by hand and brought the boat in alongside the tenders that are there. If the problem had occurred earlier it would have been an absolute nightmare trying to get back single handed without any steering ( in fact it would have been impossible ). At home it seems to me that the ultraflex cable has broken somewhere along its length, so new one on order from L&J marine and fitting will cost around
  4. Got one of those trolling vanes whilst in the states. I got the 30feet diving one which is unfortunately too deep to use over the ledge but might give it a go in some deeper marks.
  5. Dom, I have a handheld GPS sitting on my desk right in front of me. You are welcome to borrow it if you want but will need to get 4 batteries for it ( AA size )
  6. That is indeed a new personal best. When Gordon took the photo we both looked at each other saying it made the fish look a bit bigger and I am well chuffed with the quality of pictures the mobile takes, they are actually better than my camera ! That said it was 27 inches long and weighed 8lb 4 oz so would be interesting to see where that falls on the weight / length scale. The flesh was certainly pretty thick.
  7. I was also under this impression. However, just checked which way water flows when the plug is pulled out of the sink and it is def. anti - clockwise. Mind you I had water rotating clockwise and the mackeral all survived, maybe they got dizzy though and maybe it was the reason they weren't shoaling in the tank particularily well.

  9. Alun, That was 3 new bait tanks under test today. Mine worked a treat now and kept around 15 mackeral alive all day. Only downside is with me fishing solo + 60 litres of water on same side of the boat means the boat tilts a little too much for my liking when underway.

    New Boat

Looks a well nice boat Dan and now I know why you were boat hunting rather than fishing today.
  11. Also had my steering pack up just as I turned the corner to beach at Wick - so now need to get that fixed PS: Picture was taken by Gordon using my new mobile phone - takes fantastic pics.
  12. Got the week off so as the weather looked to be calming down, headed out of Christchurch for a go at the bass ( not the usual mark by the island ). Fishing was slow but hooked into an 8lb 4oz bass whilst setting up my other rod. Unfortunately the fish was well deep hooked, so have had to eat it for my tea ( and very tasty it was ) + plenty left for a few more meals. Helen has bought one of them vegetable steamers and they cook bass beautifully. Steamed fish is now my favourite cooking method. Picture attached.
  13. You must be barking mad eating a Gurnard

I had a similar thing happen. WHat I found worked was to open the picture in mspaint and then save as a .jpg file ( even if it was to start with ). I think the jpg from some cameras is not in a format that the image manipulation software can handle. Try it - worked for me. Also make sure the image is not too big as well.
  15. e-mail me your pictures ( webmaster@pbsbac.co.uk ) and I will add them. ( If they haven't been added after a few days, feel free to keep pestering me and I will do it in the end - honest ).
  16. Charlie, Dan can't make Tuesday, so Sam is more than welcome to crew. Haven't decided what times I willfish yet, will call later. ( His mobile still had that irritating answerphone message !) cheers Paul
  17. Dan, I have next week off, shall be able to fish Mon all day/eve or Tues all day/eve. Will give you first shout but if not then anyone else fancy a trip out ?
  18. I can't make the Sunday anyhow, so fine by me if it is postponed
  19. RSS is basically a format used to stream data so that it can be read using an RSS Reader ( strangely ). It allows in effect the contents of the forum ( I have mine set to last 20 posts I think ) to be sent to a reader ( in my case my phone has one ) which then displays the contents. I will show you at the next meeting if I don't see you before then.
  20. Never mind the front cover. My wife is in the mag holding a bigger bass than any I have caught and I haven't heard the end of it
  21. Alun, Thanks for the offer. I will let you know on Saturday PM or Sun AM if that is OK as I suspect the weather may conspire against us.
  22. Dan, I am not sure your metcheck wind is necessarily going to be correct. Windguru has it far windier. Will decide on the day I think.
  23. Bob, Glad you mentioned that - didn't cross my mind. Is there any chance of cadging some from any of you fishing earlier at all ?
  24. Bob, I have got the RSS one working well now as well. If you have an RSS reader on your phone try using :- www.pbsbac.co.uk/forum/ssinew.php?a=out&f=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&show=15 ( amend the value for show to alter the number of posts to show, the value for f is the forums you want to see ).
  25. Got a wap enabled phone. Missing the web site ? Try here for the forum on your phone. http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/forum/wap.php
