Dan, More than happy to take a look, however, I don't recall claiming to have been an "expert" in this thread

Nice start Andy and isn't it a great feeling to go through all the instructions, put the bits together and see it actually work in practice. Just thinking about it almost makes me want to launch my boat right now !
-
Nice one Steve and glad to see the tips and site proving useful. It took me a whole season to catch my first bass using a live joey ( and I was told how to do this by Martin ). May you catch many more like that.

Google search found :- spigot stuck ... then got two of us to hold each end (about 3 foot away from the join) and apply tension, Dave then took hold of the joint sections and moved it in a wide circular action (no pulling or twisting)... after about 3 minutes the joint popped open ... a very useful and handy tip .. Dave said that Diawa have a special machine that is designed to do the job!!

Sounds like Marineboy is indeed flying. What speed did you manage ( I am betting on it being capable of 30 knots ). E-Tec club now growing. What were your impressions with the engine then ?

Interesting thread here and seeing Ruperts comments on another thread. I just had to comment... Fished using a small lead and Portland rig setup previously and just could not get the hang of it. It obviously does work but I just didn't enjoy it and we fish for enjoyment primarily. Heard how Al and Rupert were using floats. Got instructions on how to rig one from Al - spent some money on tackle and then headed for "the mark". Successful first time and since then my son has caught using a float ( and there is no way he would have caught bouncing a lead along "snag city" ! ) and my wife has caught a great fish as well. Fishing is about enjoyment and I enjoyed the "feedback" that using a float gives you as opposed to constantly losing tackle. Float wins for me, although freelining a mackeral along the ledge is equally fun.

Phew - I saw the heaidng "My engines dead" and thought perhaps your new one didnt start. Marineboy is going to fly with that motor and you have got yourself a real bargain IMHO.

You can burn that hat please - I am beginning to think the hat has cursed me since I crushed it in the back of the car..... Thinking about it I haven't caught a fish since then Nice fish Gordon, more than me and Paul J got on the ledge. However, I have a "secret joey" mark as well which was producing well for myself and PJ - shame they seemed to have a bass repellant coating. Spent the day helping Paul J on MarineBoy which has been transformed a tad ( will leave PJ to report )......

Adam, Very nice fish. Can't quite tell where you caught that one from We opted for a trip around Christchurch ledge as I was sure the sea would rough up nicely once the flood started. However, bad choice on two counts. Fishing was very slow - PJ got our solitary bass and also dropped a couple of fish early on and the sea stayed flat as the wind dropped. Still, nice evening to be out in good company and I put my lack of fish down to the after effect of having Gordon's hat in the car for a week
-
Bet he can't...... Since leaving his hat on my boat he boated a large bass and caught some cod and in the meantime I broke my favourite fishing rod, put a hole in the bumper of my car and chipped my prop. he's got the hat back now

Gordon, I think the weather forecast for Saturday is a bit naff, but if you fancy a midweek/evening trip sometime next week I could be persuaded. PS: we'll give the food cooking a miss though !

Very nice boat and well able to fish most conditions. We went out on Valkyrie ( and also going out again in a couple of weeks ) and she too is a Pepe Cat. We fished what was knocking on a F6 wind with no problems ( apart from the anchor rope snapping ! )

Way to go Sam. I have yet to catch a Bull Huss of any size.

Similar to the look on Dan's ( Gnasher ) face when I caught a mere 20lb fish on the ledge and it decided to chomp through the landing net and bite a hole in my water container before hanging onto my waders. I thought Dan was going to jump out the boat at one stage

But PJ told me you couldn't see any land from where you were

James, Planning on a Thursday evening trip for a patch of bass hunting. but could be tempted to go for a Friday eveining trip as well but could be pushing it ! Will see what the forecast is like and if I can get some crew ( plus sufficient points ! )
-
Mark, Not sure about Friday at the moment, however, if you are up for buddying and can get crew, I am looking to go out on Thursday around 5PM ish from Wick ( LW is at 7PM ). - Weather dependant.

I never said a thing, it was a hacker that infiltrated my post and used my alias..... Tempting ... tempting

Nice fish Rupe, good to see so many large bass around. I also got out yesterday but as my friend didn't arrive from Portsmouth until later and on getting out of the run and seeing the sea state, decided to fish the mark you were mentioning the other club meeting - there was no way we were going to steam all the way to the island in that sea. Spent an hour drifting X-Ray area for the macckie and then headed back to the mark, but no way was I going to anchor it ( there was an orange coloured boat anchored at X-Ray but no way did I fancy being chucked around as the waves were getting a bit large and were coming broadside due to the southerly wind.), so we opted to try drifting with a freelined joey. First drift and something had a go at the mackeral. Second drift and I caught a 3lb fish, then it went a bit quiet ( probably not helped by someone steaming in circles around us ). Steamed back out to X-Ray for some more mackeral and lost the lid of the bait tank whilst going over a particularily large wave. ( The orange coloured boat had upped anchor by then ) Back to the mark and I hooked into a better fish which flew off and then dropped the mackeral, let some line out and it hit the mackeral again only to drop the mackeral a short distance from the boat. Ah well, at least I am getting some success now and this looks a great place to fish one evening when it is quiet. Sea was roughing up now, so headed back to the run where it was LW, but managed to sneak in ( much to the amazement of the Wilson Flyer who was telling us how shallow it was ). Nice day out still, despite having a cold and chest infection - bit of fresh sea air has done me a world of good !

Heard the reports of the small boat in Swanage Bay needing assistance yesterday, whilst fishing in Christchurch. I don't know what the conditions were like over your way but they were a little lumpy over X-Ray direction ( and deteriorating ). I heard the coastguard mention putting out the lifeboat to assist and asking any other vessels to assist. If our fishing was anything to go by, you didn't miss much - the sea was too rough to anchor comfortably, so fished X-Ray and around the ledge on the drift.

Nice fish Charlie -
Dan, The plate Rich refers to is available from Christchurch Boat Shop - It is a Rule mounting bracket. I also have one if you want to take a look- feel free to pop around and view it.
