  1. Here are some piccies of a trailer which might fit the bill for anyone looking for one ( and you know who you are )

    Did You See

Seawatch was good, although I felt they put too much emphasis on global warming being the cause of the demise in sand eel catches and forgetting to mention that they are caught "en mass" commercially ( until recently they even had a power station fuelled on sand eels ! )
  3. Tide ( what there is of it ) times at Christchurch Entrance are as follows :- LW 12:11 0.9 metres HW 19:27 1.5 metres LW 02:02 ( Sat ) 0.8 metres Can't see any problem getting in or out even at LW.
  4. Highcliffe WeatherWeather looking OK at the moment. Keeping fingers crossed. Jas, I don't know what Bob's plans are but we are going to try for some Bass to start and then for some sole as it gets dark ).
  5. James, you couldn't make the 4th anyway I recall Lady Jane was going out on the Friday as well, I recall from another post elsewhere, so always good to have a few boats out there if night fishing. Anymore takers ?
  6. Terry, Yes that is the plan. Bit of bass fishing to start and then settle down as it gets dark for the sole. Probably see you out there I presume.
  7. Planning on going out on Friday afternoon after work and fishing into the evening.

    Trailer

Now why would you be wanting one of those I wonder ...... My friend at work ( on this forum as WestRay ) did have a trailer which would take a 21ft / 24 ft boat. Pop him a PM
  9. All the best Matt - Hope you had a good birthday.
  10. Agreed with the fact that some take it too seriously, however you don't need to take it seriously to succeed. When I fish I have no problems with not "winning" etc. ( with James around you need to ), however, in a species comp it is possible to be in the running whilst fishing for fun ( I went bass fishing for the last one and if I had caught a solitary mullet I would have won it without really trying too hard.. ) Ditto, the 48 hr comp, fished this for 2-3 hours on the Friday and caught a fantastic bream. What I found personally disappointing is that we could have club members in the running to win a fantastic prize in the BFM ( and after all James achieved it ) and the only reason we could fail to do this will be because not enough members bother to put in an entry for a competition that only involves recording what they caught that day. Not asking for much surely ?
  11. James, Sorry to hear re: foot. Not working as well, surely is a worry ? ( I know I would be bugg%@*! if I couldn't get to work ). Hope it fixes itself quickly.
  12. Al, Preach away. ( Hoping that I am not one of the club members you have seen steaming away ). "you can feel that first strike of the bait as the bass headbutts (with flared gills) the mackerel (freespool, leave it where it is) and then the heavy thump of the, mouth wide open, inhalation of a 10 inch mackerel" - Stop it , getting tempted to go out again ! , I am hooked on this style of fishing, great fun and yet more useful tips from yourselves again.

    Trailer

also :- Trailer Speed Limits When towing a trailer you are restricted to 60mph on motorways and dual carriageways and 50mph on other roads provided, of course, that lower limits are not in operation. No need for the Chapmans to reply to this

    Trailer

Paul, A Mondeo can tow up to 1,800 Kg on a braked trailer. It is one of the good features of the car ( I am talking new style Mondeo ). From www.trailerwarehouse.co.uk the rules are :- Cars & Commercials under 1525kg Unladen Weight There is no specific law restricting the weight of a braked trailer which may be towed by these vehicles. However, exceeding the maximum towing weight or train weight set by the vehicle manufacturer can lead to prosecution. Some vehicles are marked either with the maximum towing weight or the maximum train weight on the manufacturer's plate.

    Trailer

Also worth noting that the weight of 750 KG includes the trailer as well.... so a Shetland Family Four starting at 700 Kg means it is going to be well over 750 Kg once trailer and engine are added. One of the selling points of the 520 is that you can tow it on an unbraked trailer - just..... However, I have replaced my 76 Kg engine with one weighing 120 Kg..... hmm To sum up. Boat 340 Kg Engine 120 Kg Anchor / Chain 10 Kg Fuel 30 Kg Batteries 30 Kg Fishing tackle / weights / rope 50 Kg 580 Kg Leaving 200 Kg for the trailer. Anyway I have a feeling of deja - vue here. Granted an emergency stop with the boat may be fun but towing with the X-Trail it is less of an impact compared to the Mondeo as the weight of the boat relative to the car is so much less. ( I sometimes forget the boat is there ).
  16. You may have noticed at the top of the forum page there is a link to a webshop. Any purchases made from using this link will earn money for the website and all income from this I intend to plough back into competition prizes ( and they will be reasonable amounts as well - first one will be coming end of next month ). The same applies for visiting any of the ads or usage of the Google search bar. Checkout the link here :- PBSBAC Fundraising If you already purchaes items online from the likes of Tesco/ M&S etc. then use the link from here and earn the club money at the same time. Happy shopping !
  17. You weren't wrong James. It was certainly pants. No way was I going to steam over to the island in that ! Had the one bass and a my friend had a good garfish. Fugazi and Marineboy were out roughing it as well. Calmed down in the evening though, so not too bad in the end. Fishing was slow though. Mark, I have you down for crew on Friday. Weather forecast is looking OK as well.

    Lost Him

Tempted to grab the boat an go out after him right now I presume you were doing the same drifts as the other night ? Rough out there was it ?
  19. Paul D

    Trailer

Bit pricey your tyres ! Is your boat really that heavy though. As in do you really need a braked trailer ? Neo is sitting on an unbraked trailer and I have no problems towing her, plus no worries with brakes. 750KG max allowed ( inc. trailer ).

    More Bass

Went out on the Friday evening, despite JimBob saying it was "a bit snotty" out there ... Took a friend from football out and when we reached the ledge it was roughing up nicely. Tried usual drift for mackeral, but my friend was already feeling ill. Marineboy then turned up and headed west to meet up with Fugazi who had found mackeral. Steamed over to meet up and managed to catch a few strings of joeys. also had a monster garfish as well. Had a go drifting near Hengsibury Head and lost a fish as I was helping my friend tackle up. The drift was from west to east which was pretty clever given the tide was ebbing. After slack water and the start of the flood we tried some drifts on the ledge. Hooked into a fish briefly and lost it. Switched tactics to use the float rig and almost immediately caught a bass off around 2 1/2 lb ( returned ). Stayed out until the fireworks started and then returned. Hard fishing but my first bass from the ledge this year.
  21. Better get some worms then as well Never caught a sole yet. Will be going to the island to start and prob come back as it gets dark. Tried calling Gordon as I know he is keen to get out in Enticer. I now have crew, and I am sure he will crew / take boat / buddy up if wanted. Didn't think weather was looking too bad ?
  22. James, I think you made the mistake I did. The post is referring to next Friday... I also called Rich and he is up for crewing but not tomorrow However, I know Gordon is looking to get out and I am planning on a trip out Friday PM as well but not sure re: Sole
  23. Cant comment on the actuator size ( Adam has them fitted to his, so will know better the size ). If you fit the tabs with too large an angle down then they will act as brakes as described. I presume you have the angle as per the template that comes with them ? Try sending off an e-mail to nauticus ( info@nauticusinc.com ) I found them extremely helpful.
  24. BBC 1 on Wednesday has a program on at 7 PM called Trawlermen - about a fishing trawler and follows this at 8PM with SeaWatch which looks very interesting "For a nation surrounded by sea we know very little about the creatures that live there. Kate Humble sets out to put this right with a five thousand mile adventure across the UK seas"
  25. Def could do an evening. Are we talking Lymington ? Only problem is my mullet rod is in two pieces now but could probably catch one on a solid-c !
