    What Was It ?

yesterday we launched from lymington with a view for my boys to catch some mackerel and bream, on the way back from the ledge we decided to have a drift over some sandbanks. 5/0 hook and live mackerel for me, and then on three occasions my mackerel was bitten clean off just behind the head ? next try double hook and managed to connect a good heavy fight and then the 30llb trace gave in! any ideas on what they might have been ? thanks andy

    Whelks

whilst fishing saturday just off the spoil grounds i saw a boat pulling up whelk pots. has any body got any idea what sort of ground the whelks live on ? thanks andy
  11. the one i have made with the tek tank pump in a barrel works well, the addition i made was to fit a plastic ball valve at the top and open it slightly this way the level is getting pumped down slowly whilst the pump is still airating and then add an extra bucket of water when the level gets lower. also good at the end of the day to pump the tank dry.(using a simple cap on the outlet so that water is only pumped through the top valve) unable to post photos on here but if anybody wants one i can e mail direct. hope this helps andy

  15. my first club comp. we only managed to fish sunday and no large fish but what a lovely day. i fished with two mates who were keen on some bream fishing and it was bream that they ended up with. over 80 bream plenty dogfish wrasse smoothound thanks again to the organisers cheers andy ps trim tabs now 20 degrees and work a treat.
  16. mike, i keep a garmin 72 on the boat as a back up and always find it easy to use and reliable. (just plain screen not colour) might be worth phoning jg in weymouth but not sure. cheers andy
  17. sorry for lack of info, smart tabs 1290-60.(18ft boat + 60 4-stroke) ive got the day off thursday so going to kimeridge to give the new adjustment a go and hopefully find some bream and mackeral for my boys to catch. cheers andy
  18. launched baiter sunday 7-30 straight out for mackeral about a mile past old harry after an hour and only three we gave it best and headed over to the car park at ballards, anchored up and the bites started straight away but all the bream were under 2 pounds (13 total) so just after lunch we went on over to the rough where we managed another four and a dogfish before heading back in. the trim tabs are now fitted and early feelings are very good. they do need adjusting so that the angle is less at the mo they are acting like brakes at low speed but once over 12 knots they make a large difference to the ride quality(most of the slamming has gone). the tabs have also allowed me to change from the 12 pitch prop to the 13 pitch. i know its only one trip so far too early to be sure but it appears that fuel consumption has been improved as well which is an added bonus as i only fitted the tabs to improve the ride quality. cheers andy
  19. probably good weather for selling kites rather than pleasure boats !
