    Peeler Crab

Matt...you get two types of peeler.......generally, if you catch ure own, and find two crabs one piggy backing the other, the one underneath will be either a peeler or a popper. To prepare, simply take the crab and determine which type it is, either a peeler...soft bodied, or a popper, a hardback with the rear of the shell split from the body, in readiness to climb out of its old shell. A peeler, as Kam rightly says, simply take a crab and remover a leg and hook, but best to add bait elastic, or I personally hook through the body, slide up the hook, and wrap up in elastic, leaving legs at each end of the hook. This leaves a juicey bait. A popper....take off the hard outer shell, to expose the soft body underneath, and hook as above. Hardbacks can be used very successfully at this time of year for big Wrasse, again, remove a back leg, hook up into the socket, push hook either out of the back, or out of the underside, with hardbacks, depending on size and shell toughness, its still advisable to use a good length of bait elastic. An added attraction with hardbacks, is to slightly crush the shell, letting the juices oooze through. Tight Lines....Rich
  4. Steve....when trev and I discussed this, the thought was to photograph the scale, and store the image on a computer. Scales can be placed in a bag, and whacked onto a data sheet for storage in a filing cabinet, but most of the data can easily be stored on computer. Still open to discussion on this though. Rich
  5. Very good...hehe

Kam, Im pretty sure sealskinz or sealskins, advertise in Sea Dangler. I have a contact in the Orvis Company, and can get a reasonable discount,35%, on clothing. I'll grab an ale with him tonight and see what I can get them for. PS. Cuttles soon?? PPS Your a brave ninja asking your missus to keep her make up on at night Rich
  7. Trev...sorry, my digital is a Ricoh. Ive sourced small self seal bags, the type used by tackle firms for small bits n bobs, also Ive stressed an interest in the computer Gordon has up for grabs...it will be perfect to keep my nippers off my lappy, but akso be large enough to hold data from a srvey such as this. Rich
  8. Gordon, what size video card does it have installed?? I'm looking for a secong unit for games for the boys when thery come over, sounds fine except for no mention of video card. I'm after something like a 32mb or larger. If it hasnt one that large, is it possible to bang a replacement inside with the current drive and processor??.......Paul???? Cheers Rich

Yeah yeah Dan......4 yr old son my foot<g>
  10. Dave.....kep your eye on the airspeed indicator on the back of the seat....I presume that your kite will have one.....I bet you top 700mph across the ground with these huge winds and strong gulfstreams. On the way home from Florida, I topped 723mph, although I'm sure that was groundspeed, but we were still held over Gatwick cos we sped up and couldnt get a landing slot!!! Safe home, Rich

    Gloves

Kam, both fingerless and neoprene have their days, although I'd personnally purchase a set of sealskniz, and a set of neoprenes, as both are worth their weight in gold, both are waterproof, one more hardwearing than the other. I also bang a couple of those boots gelpac handwarmers, which are reuseable, into the tackle box, they stay "charged" untill you click the metal disc inside the gel, to activate the heating mechanism, thus negating the need for fuel rods or batteries. I swore by them when hunting with my hawks in winter, slipping one under the gauntlet, which got extremely cold holding two and a half pounds of Goshawk, or twenty two pounds of Golden Eagle!! At four quid a shot, deffo worth it. Hope this helps, Rich
  12. I followed this one from the outset, as I was supposed to be fishing a comp yesterday. Apparently the search coordinated was was 1 mile up tide, and eight miles downtide as soon as the alarm was raised, the rip must have been fierce. Safety at sea, and on shore, while fishing in extreme conditions, must be paramount. Thoughts with the families. Rich
  13. Hiya tom, and welcome aboard. Enjoy the best forum on the net........probably. Rich

  16. After logging on over in Florida, just the once, whilst on holls, Ive had a couple of nasties pop in, and no end of "spam", some of which puzzelled me, as it was asking Debbs if she wished to increase the size of her manhood Rich
  17. Duncan, Piemeister, who occasionally posts on the forum, is shortly returning from The Big Apple, he has my Bass Pro tackle catalogue, so I'll get him to send it back, and mail you the catalougue ref.numbers for the net. I also brought back a Bass Pro boat accessory catalogue, with fantastic savings on pumps livewell kits, stainless stell, (I appreciate we have carriage), all sorts really, you are welcome to peruse if you wish, and I have that here in the flat. Should anyone else require a quick squint, let me know, I'll bring it to the meeting tomorrow eveening.....along with PJ's mould!!! Sorry Paul!!!! Rich

Enlighten me guys?? Is it to be repeated??
  19. Thanks Trev.....I had a quick glegg at the site, and read a couple of teh studies, quite interesting. Oh, on a sadder note, I have to report the death of Alex Behrehndt, he died last week after a stroke, at the ripe old age of 93 (Ithink). despite being instrumental into the nasty importation of the Opaline Minnow, and Signals to Test tributaries here in Romesy, he did do a lot for still water trout angling in Britain, after settling here post release from the P.O.W. camp at Ganger Farm. His aged pennings wil be missed by many I'm sure. Rich
  20. No worries Adam......to be honest, the wrist is still bad, Ive cancelled my last five comps!!! I'm able to grip a rod now, so I'm up for crew this weekend, if anyone needs. Just glad you got out. Rich
  21. Nice report Paul.....I think it would be interesting to see just how many decent Bass have been caught over the past couple of years, from a personal experience, my average has certainly got higher, with new venues and tested methods employed, producing many fish over the eight pounds, a few of nine, and one of twelve, so a glance in the club fish book may show we are either better at tweaking out larger Bass, or indeed they are more prolific?? Who knows? Rich
  22. Stranger things happen at sea!.................. I've just read the post, and wil try and ring James, see if he wants a lift back to christchurch......Pomey's v close to me, least I can do. Rich
  23. Moenchengladbach......as they say in Germany.
  24. Alun, get ureself a galvy dustbin, put it on a raised base, a half size one is best, try and fit a tube in the top, like the garden watse burners readilly available form old style ironmongers, on the base, place a coarse grade mesh, to enable a tray to be placed on top, then fit shelves, similar to grill replacements for kettle barbecues, again, readilly available. Place either coarse sawdust, and hardwood is good, or maybe apple wood chunks, which will also burn slowly, on the tray, place ure fish on the racks........light in an airy place, and let it smoke away......24hrs does fish a treat. Try it, you'll be surprised. I satarted by making smokers out of steel biscuit tins.......building larger more ehat effieient ones. I have a good supply of fruit wood, sawdust......just ask matey, PJ has used some of mine I believe. Rich
  25. Its a bugger to turn around in a coppice holding em...aint it BOb!!!
