come on Rich! I have 60lb EDS on a formula 15kg which is paired to a 50lb class Berkely full roller road. Agreed it's not appropriate for much in the UK however it's the only rod I have that is heavier than 20-x; it's the only reel I have that is larger than a 7000 class and whilst I have 35lb fireline on one reel I have 20lb on 8 and 14 on 3......... Anyway - we all have dreams!

as Mike say's there are in fact a huge huge number of 20 - 26ft boats in the peche promenade manner - admittedly more of the cruiser rigged versions than the fisher in some cases (ie the Jeanneau 655 is the cruiser rig not pilot house. In fact many I hadn't heard of - Sea Kingdom for example and some red hot - New Antares 6. Choice choice choice. It's a really excellent opportunitiy to make direct comparisons - but quality showes pretty quickly........... Boat to lust after - Rhea 850 Boats to question - Arvor 34 (what's it's market????) Interesting boats - new baylinner 246 Beautiful boats (with fishing boat heritage) - Searay sundancer 355 (believe it or not) Best engineering - 'ladies' promoting F1 powerboating (may not be 'available' all show............ my votes with Adam and surely you are having a laugh with 4-10oz...................I have a 1481 ugly and 2-6 and 6-8 uptiders but a 4-10 ?????????? jumped in there mike - got to respond! more expensive may, or may not, be better but without doubt you can have more enjoyment from appropriate tackle and rods are the critical element in this 'fun factor'.. great reels make it last longer of course...................

don't know about interesting as it misses out most of the braids I have (whiplash pro, ron thompson dynabraid being the ones I like the best) other than Fireline - but the Fireline result seems to bear out the BS factor - generally I use 20lb, although I have 14, 35 and 60EDS on reels too. the 20 seems to hang on in there beyond my resonable expectations from time to time!

Mike - whilst I am not suggestig there isn't a place for your paranoia; I think it's misplaced here. Here's the logic supporting that view - 1. If 'they' are that illogical they will just ban all internal combustion engines - why would they stop at 2's? 2. There are increasingly stringent emmission tests being put in place ie this is not a stagnant situation that might be viewed as needing a kickstart by environmenatlists or others of a similar persuasion. 3. If it starts anywhere it will be inland, resovoirs or similar. 4. There is no suggestion that IC engines pollute the local waters directly - only via general air/atmospheric pollution. Again reducing the likely targeting. Indeed if there was to be such a move it would already have happened in relation to commercial vessels using antifoulings that are banned (for environmental reasons) for use by leisure craft. but then - anything can happen.....................

mike if it's a brunswick motor then the Optimax is the one to go for. personally it would be a no brainer for me - the 135 everytime. It's the start of the v6 range and has so much more smoothness (and redundancy in it's configeration) compared to the triples and 4 (125). I ran a non optimax Merc on my 660 - 175......... ..........which gave me a nice 54knot top end - but burnt a lot of fuel at that ! However it was significantly more frugal at 20/30 knots than the 125 at the same speed because of the consumption/rev curve on these ob petrol engines duncan

re Mercs I have to agree that from discussions over the years it seems generally accepted that they (Merc) made great 2 strokes, then developed Optimax which is still one of the best esp in the big sizes, but that they just didn't get the 4 strokes right in the was that Honda did early, and now Suzuki in spades. And then there's ETECs In the 100 hp range I would go for 115 ETEC or equivelent Suzuki 4st as engines of choice. Between them - a fag paper............
