  2. Hi Reeco

Welcome to pbsbac and thanks for posting.

We have several Kayaking members that mostly joined us in 2009. As a small boat club we do not yet have a kayak section although there are plans afoot for that to change at our AGM (April).

Anyway I wish you and your members well and I'm sure that should any of our kayaking members wanted to fish your neck of the woods that they will be in touch. Similarly I hope that you would feel you could contact us if you want to venture to our area

  3. You have to be careful as there are different models available ,some better than others e.g there are different timer units available and some will only heat for an hour maximum.

I believe that's the ex van types. There is a chap on the E site that overhauls ex van types and will provide the units with a different controller so the unit works on a TRV/thermostat type controller

  4. are we thinking Portland marina, Weymouth marina or Weymouth Quay

    Charlie

I don't mind any location. Might be a bit of a walk from Weymouth Marina to the nearest pub (Deans main concern) Town quay you fall out of the boat into the pub, that's a plus but I know nothing about Portland Harbour and the facilities available there.

    Your call

  5. Hi Gary and welcome to PBSBAC

Glad you took my advice and looked in here.

Unfortunately my boat is not trailable but some of the guys will be along to offer assistance re launching sites etc shortly.

Most week ends in season there will be a few club boats fishing around the needles area. Coding comes to an end around the end of Feb so not long now before the quiet season and April before other inshore species move in.

    Any questions just ask away

  6. Provisionally book Quest II and two persons (me and Chris - maybe a third) for the May dates.

I have a very unusual campsite organised for myself plus one other, but I need permission from the other users of the site (PM sent to those it may effect) otherwise I'll be looking for a B&B.

    Tom

you will struggle to get the tent pegs in on the harbour wall m8...... laugh.gif

Where we are camping we may well struggle with tent pegs.... guy ropes around flower pots is more likely.

    Marks Patio?

  7. Interesting thread this one.....and the one at WSF.....I can see the argument for both methods of attaching the chain to the anchor to trip .......slack links vs no slack links....Is anything simple ????

anyway .. I am erring on Tom's no slack side of the argument......but if I ever have to "cut and run" I will tie off to a buoy or spare fender and hit the MOB button on my plotter to see if it is worth retrieving.... And then at least if it was a good mark I could tie up to it again.......a sort of personal mooring point for as long as it may last !! rolleyes.gif

On that note....is it worth the effort to retrieve ?? I thought it would be in the interest of safety to get rid of the 100 ft of warp wafting around in the currents.....however is there any local diver/service that does this sort of thing ??

    Dave biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

You are right in going with Toms method imo

Regarding divers we have a few in the club that may be able to oblige. You have to weigh up the cost of the warp chain and anchor against the cost of air fuel and time to decide if its worth the effort. My anchor set up would cost around

  8. Martin.....how bad is that ???? relegating the crew to the deck just because of his efforts in male social bonding !! laugh.gif

what sort of a skipper are you ??? rolleyes.gif

Look ere Dave its my boat and if I want to fart I will but others have to ask or face the consequences.....and stars tongue.giflaugh.gif

  9. I can't imagine mixing women and fishing though... sad.gif , but then again I've never had the balls to approach it in the way Charlie has outlined...

Actually it was suggested to Veronica, Wendy and Lorraine (Tony D's other half) last year and they were up for coming down one night and shopping the next day whilst the boys go play fishing games but times and weather never quite added up

  10. I'm also going to carry the tender despite the apparent 'hassle' - the reality is it takes away a huge amount of hassle when over there in either Braye or St PP!

I shall take the new one Veronica is buying me for Christmas (Bless her) Also good to leave on a buoy to secure your berth in Braye.

    His wife says he does.

Hmmm he might be studying the star patterns then laugh.gif

  11. I may take a trip down there for a couple of days, but not sure I can be bothered with WSF as it has gone down hill so much since they decided to turn it into a Nazi training camp for their moderators.

I'd far rather a PBSBAC Weymouth meet. Something along the lines of our Alderney trips?

Sounds good Tom I would rather fish with guys I know than strangers. Perhaps we could talk at a club meeting about sorting out a trip for the club. This would of course suit even small boats as they can trail down so almost all club members could be included

  12. Dean and I will be sleeping on the boat, not sure about our new crew member yet, I haven't found out if he snores or farts louder than me laugh.gif

On the subject of sleeping on the boat if winds are from the N/E or similar we may well end up in St Peter Port Guernsey. Last year sleeping on the boat was shall we say interesting with all that water coming over the wall. After 3 nights of not much sleep it does get a little tedious.

  13. This years WSF meet at Weymouth is from the 5th June to the 11th inclusive

Are any other club members planning on attending?

Dean and I are hoping to be there again but maybe not for the full week. Perhaps a long weekend or so. Last years was an excellent affair but would of course be much better with more familiar faces.
