  1. Duncan No need to pay postage they are a local company so can pick the goods up Martin
  2. Yep I guess I have done all of those at some point in my boat fishing career How else would we learn
  3. One of our site sponsors J-Marine has a link from our main pages If you do use them please mention the club Martin
  4. At least I tried using City low sulphur diesel..I heard it is better for the environment Not guilty on the boat launching bit though
  5. I'm in the same position as Bob... have been ordered if its nice on Sunday to take ere indoors cruising up the river etc Still the pub up there does some nice grub and beer Martin
  6. Pete Nobody is saying that our house is yet or ever will be in order. Why is the eec taking a hard line against the french and not our own goverment or indeed the spanish who come in for a fair amount of criticism from all quarters. The eec also state that they have no intention at the moment of bringing charges against any other government for breeches in fisheries policy which speaks volumes. I think it probably amounts to the scale of abuse and the long history behind the story Martin
  7. Fair play for once from the eec but where are their teeth. Its no good fining if you cannot collect. The French never appear to comply with anything unless it suits them so why would this be different Martin http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4674885.stm
  8. John I had a similar experience a few years ago and what really wound me up was the guys attitude, he certainly had plenty of it. I too was not speeding, I am very careful not to do over 10 knots which can sometimes be difficult especially if you get hit up the arse by someone elses wash. Anyway I gave up trying to argue and let him say his piece then ambled on at 10 knots. I am not knocking them (much) but they do need to be careful who they accuse as bad feeling certainly sticks. I wonder if it was the same chap, he could certainly do with a lesson in people skills Martin
  9. I would agree with everything Duncan and Bob have posted except that sandeels tend to bury themselves in the sand when the tide is to strong for them, then come out to play at slack water. Thats when we can feather them up Martin
  10. Paul To late and I have sent you a warning Martin
  11. Will Nice to hear you got out onto the water without any major mishaps and better small fish than no fish As Bob said easier fishing out of xchurch and Poole with no weed up Poole end Martin
  12. Terry Not sure if I will be in Hamworthy this week but if I do go that way will call in and pick it up for you Martin
  13. Welcome Becks, I look forward to your contributions Martin
  14. Pete Thanks for pointing that out. My fault the filter was set to loose so if unt was in a word it censored that word. Have now altered it and your post. The censoring is not there for our members as I know most if not all would respect others sensibilities, it is there in case we get visited by those that wouldnt. Martin
  15. I resemble that remark...leave my boat out of it
  16. pbsbac.co.uk welcomes kayak fishers Martin
  17. WElcome to pbsbac.co.uk the best place for southern boat anglers Martin
  18. Nice one Rich and well done Martin
  19. We are all accountable under the merchant-shipping act. Just last week a Jet Skier was found guilty of a charge under the 1995 merchant shipping act of "doing an act which caused or is likely to cause serious injury.
  20. I have a large screen high pixel Lowrance B&W plotter and regret not getting the colour equivilent. The reason for this is ease of veiwing. Dont get me wrong a large screen is a boon but in B&W it can be difficult to make out features and on occasions tell the difference between different contour lines. Some times to even see the screen can be testing especially if you had a heavy session the night before. Although I havent used a colour unit I can see the benefit of distingushing between land and contour lines by colour making life much simpilar. I would guess a colour sounder would have similar pluses but to be fair I have never had a problem seeing my B&W sounder unlike the plotter. Next big investment for me will be a colour plotter Already started the secret stash of cash Martin
  21. Mike As you would appear to only undertake inshore fishing then I would say a reasonable quality 10-20lb rod. This should be able to handle up to a 1lb of lead with ease and more if pushed. If I were to pick one general all round rod it would have to be the Diawa TDX, happy to fish for Bream inshore, plaice on the banks or for heavier bottom fishing. There are other rods that probably do the same job but I will only comment on what I have used. Martin
  22. Thats definately Rich cuddling his space hopper and playing with his extra long flower patterned nylon shirt collar Martin
  23. I used to keep Maverick on a pontoon berth in Poole. I cant really comment on a bankside mooring but can give you my view on both trailering and berthing from my personal viewpoint With a boat on a pontoon you would tend to use it more, I definately did. It is great to be able to just turn up with your basic kit jump on and go. Short evening sessions or half days are a breeze. On the other hand as Bob suggests you would need to be happy with your location and its security along with fishing grounds restricted to the range of your boat from your berth. On the security front I would be a little wary of a bankside mooring and the ease of access to those who may not appreciate the fruits of your labour in quite the same way you do. Every time the wind blows above a gentle puff your down there checking the lines and that the fenders are still in place and that everything is ok. With a boat on a mooring/pontoon you have the additional pain of regular antifouling and changing of annodes plus everything seems to last half as long when fully exposed to all that the weather can throw at it. Trailering is a bit of a pain in as much as its bloomin hard work sorting everything out towing to the venue, launching then fishing all day. When you return to the slip the hard work really begins as you know. Those little evening forays can seem hardly worth all the effort put into launch and retreiving when you take into account the time it takes to get the boat on and off the water. On the plus side is the freedom to go wherever you like, the excitement of trying new venues, the ease of maintenance with the boat always being to hand. Last but not least of course there's the comerarderie of the trailer boat section of pbsbac. To sum up then I don't regret returning to trailer boating and enjoy all that it entails but I do miss being able to just jump on the boat and going. All the above is probably no help to you but it is exactly as I view it and may give you food for thought. Martin
  24. excellent I'll have a pound each way Martin
  25. Terry If you havent already bought the braid then I would go for 20lb for the conolon and perhaps 30lb for the tdx. Use a rubbing leader of about 2/3 metres for taking your lead slider/boom and attaching your trace to. Martin
