No Mike Until now the ferry had to give way to craft coming in or out of the harbour. As he is the one crossing the channel other traffic had right of way but a new byelaw changes that.

Mike The most important thing to remember when fitting your transdsucer is it needs clean water to function properly. So make sure there is nothing underwater forward of the proposed location that might cause turbulence Martin

Mike Knowing your sounder (if its still the furuno) I would cut a hole in the inner skin then close the gap between the floor skin and the hull. Drill the appropriate hole through the hull and fit the tranducer as described in the sounders manual. You could fit the tranducer as Bob described but you would still need to cut the floor as your transducer will not send and receive through a void as they dont like air. The other alternative is to purchase a skimmer transducer. These fit on the transom in the clearest availble space where it wont be affected by air/water turbulance and a minimum of 350mm from the engine. Wherever you fit it it must have clear water with no turbulence or it will show up as fish/weed or clutter Martin

Alun As you know I have the bigger Warrior so can only give advice through my experience with using mine and studying others boats. I used to have a hardy 17 which was a good little sea boat of the semi-displacement type, which is similar to the Orkney breed of boats. The boats you mention are very similar in size but that is where the similarity stops. Both types are a compromise of sorts. Orkneys as I hinted at above are of semi-displacement type, which means they are a quick displacement boat. The hulls have a flattened area for the boat to plane on and will achieve quite good speeds in very fair weather but they do tend to give a hard ride at speed. On the plus side they will be very economical at slow speeds and be quite seaworthy boats. These type of craft seem to have lowish gunwales which if you are not use to can make you feel a little insecure but s/s rails fitted along the gunwales can increase the feeling of security. The warrior and Elite type hulls are of the Shallow Vee variety so they are not out and out deep Vee speedboats. They are though a fairly quick and stable craft. These are designed to give good stability at rest by having a wide beam (for the size of boat) and a good pointed section at the front for cutting through the waves. There is a flat area at the rear which the boat planes on and also instils some buoyancy to give a stable platform at rest. Don't get this wrong though if driven hard they to will slam and I don't think you will find a small boat that doesn

Adam Mechanics job as I cant get to the fuel tank without taking the floor apart. Tony was very good though and didnt sting me. Martin

Due to my little mistake on our return ie partially refilling the inboard petrol tank with diesel have had a little trouble calculating my fuel usage. Have emptied my fuel tank today and after doing the maths it looks as though we used around 75- 80 litres. That was about what I had calculated and left us with a good amount of fuel in reserve. I would thoroughly recommend not filling built in petrol tank with diesel as it is a right pain to get out One thing that strikes me from all the other postings is that my 2 stroke Optimax V6 outboard is on a par in terms of fuel usage with some of the smaller 4 strokes? especially when you consider the weight of Maverick compared with some of the smaller boats. Food for thought when considering re-engining the boat Martin

Lesson No 2 After recovering Maverick we saw this guy with his daughter trying to launch his boat, nothing wrong with that you might say and you would be right. This chap had tied a very long rope between the car and the trailer, so far so good. The boat is chocked off that is untill he removed the timber chock (lump of 4 by 4wood) the boat starts to move down the slip as you might expect, but hang on who's in the car..you guessed it nobody, this guy then starts to panic and attemps to push his boat uphill so as to stop it pulling the car and also shouting at his 13/14 year old daughter to jump in the car and put the hand brake on.. well she hasn't got a clue poor girl, she trys to put on the hand brake but hasn't the strength. I quickly ran across the yard and jumped to the rescue put on the handbrake and all was well. Alls well that ends well but the guy was really asking for trouble because 1 The trailer was a pile of c**p 2 he was using a vauxhaul corsa size car to tow a boat and trailer that must have gone 1000kg 3 his crew was not capable of helping other than hold the rope which I think she did quite well...what do you think Paul she never had a sore finger anyhow Lesson 3 Don't refuel you petrol boat with diesel, I did and it hurts the wallet.
