Congratulations on your new purchase, looking at the pictures she looks a good friendly boat. If you decide to go ahead with the purchase I would suggest to the yard that they get the boat off the trailer to allow you to carry out various checks and repairs to the trailer. It looks like that one of the mudguards is broken, this might be that the boat is sitting too low and resting on the mudguards. Whilst Rob is right that the brakes and bearings may well need servicing also check the winch and strap, this is essential to work correctly to make life easy, also all the rollers turn and if it has a rear swing pivot that this is all free to move, don't for get you will need a light board if it doesn't come with one as well as 3" tie down ratchet strap to make the boat secure on the trailer, you don't want it to fall off on the way home. When going out for a test run check to see if the engine is warm before they try to start it, if so ask why as sometimes people like to warm up an engine when selling so it appears an easy starter, also you will see if the battery is any good in holding a charge. Do all the electronics, if it has any, all work? Have you got the handbooks? Is there a service history with the engine and when was it last serviced and what was done? Ask the similar questions you would do if buying a car regarding any mechanicals and electricals. Is there an anchor and how long is the warp (rope)? Is there any damage to to hull and especially the keel? Try not to let your heart rule your decision, most of us have done that at some time in our boating career. Do go out with a buddy boat if you buy her as a safety precaution & don't forget your life jacket and wear it! Good luck 😎 Dave

Hi all I am after a small section of wood to repair the door frame of the rear door of our garage after a gust of wind blew the door too far back and split the wooden frame Whilst I am no wood worker I feel I could cut out a section and splice a new bit in. I am in need of 100mm x 40mm about 1/2 mtr long, for those in old money 4"x 1.5" approx. 18" long Would anyone have such a bit they don't want? I am sure I could arrange collection as I am in Upton and currently in total lock down Thanks in advance

Sad I know but have just been going back as far as the forum allows to read old posts in a number of topics. Seems we were all keen to get out but had weather issues, safety was discussed a lot as were any incidents that occurred at sea around the uk and local, catches and loads of chat Some posts went back to 2003 and many forum names popped up that I had forgotten Time for a coffee I think

My response would be, having been down the same road as most on here, is to don't spend all your money on the first boat you see. Try to crew for as many members as possible, most look for willing helpers from time to time, to see how you feel about the boat you are on. Talk to the owners and see what the querks are on a particular model. Decide if you want to moor or trail the boat, cost on this point can make a difference to your budget! Most owners get their first boat then often quickly upgrade to something else more suitable for their needs so as I say don't be in too much of a hurry. When buying a boat take someone with you who knows about boats/engines Don't let your heart rule your wallet, good luck

If anyone was going to the Wessex AGM on the 20th March this has now been cancelled until further notice due to the Coronavirus issues. Too many of the older generation tend to attend this event, so to help prevent any possibility of contracting or spreading the virus the AGM has been cancelled.

Looking at your top picture and the spines on the tail I would suggest Spotted Ray. I looked at the Shark Trust site https://www.sharktrust.org/Handlers/Download.ashx?IDMF=94352e39-167a-471d-8bc5-a5f9e9cff5fe

I have managed to find the information specific to Poole harbour nets and their proposed limit off of piers Netting Review Poole Harbour.pdf
-
The biggest issue is that it was recommended by the consultation input that they increase the distance from 100mtrs to 200mtrs from all pier structures, however they have ignored RSA's (again) and put the minimum distance for nets as 100mtrs! Many anglers can cast over 100mtrs and will be snagging these nets, this is most common around Swanage pier. Netters will also find that their nets will drag inshore during a storm and it becomes more of a danger to not only swimmers but boat traffic of all kinds. It also does not allow shore fishermen to get a chance of catching a decent fish. It has been recommended that as many people as possible write to Southern IFCA to complain about this. There will be another public consultation when they have drafted the by-law but before it has been passed by MMO but I suspect it will be too late to get any amendments in by that time. I am trying to get a copy of the draft document before it is approved by the Technical committee of Southern IFCA but it is a bit difficult to locate at the moment, if I find it I will post it here as it will be in the public domain so no issues over publication.

Hi all Having another shed clear out and I have about approx. 200m of 10mm rope. Would be ok for a small craft as anchor rope or will make loads of mooring lines. Unfortunately this rope does not plat well so will need whipping to make secure fixings, I am happy to do this for anyone if they wish. I have the proper whipping twine. Price is a donation to the HOW fund
