  1. Is this still on? I know weather isnt looking great, just havent heard much talk of the comps recently? Also, having not been out on the boat for almost 5 weeks I am getting itchy!! Why is the weather always so crap this time of year! The long range shows no let up until the mid Nov!!
  2. KAM: Was typing too fast and meant fresh (sea) water...not freshwater as in out of the tap. I dont mind doggies to eat although there are plenty of other fish I would rather have. Skinning is a royal pain, but trying filleting them as you would a round fish. You loose hardly any meat. Cook with the skin on and it simply falls away when cooked. It has a fairly string taste...but worth trying once.
  3. James is a bit tied up at the moment with the new addition to the family...he is even considering selling DR! ........ He leaves for St Peter port tommorow morning at 7ish (am) The comp is fished all day tommorow, and they return to England on Sunday afternoon. The forecast is better than at the beginning of the week, but still far from ideal. Looking at windguru - they give 11 knots on Friday morning building to 28 knots on Sunday afternoon. Still James says he perfers snotty conditions as it sorts the men from the boys! His biggest fear is Jim Whippy....who as we all know fishes regulary with the england team and is a dab hand at species hunting. I think the rules are: a species hunt, no limit to the specie caught, but a minimum size of 200mm (i think?) applies. Species are likey to be bream, pout, wrasse and pollock, but bass, flats mackerel etc are all likey to feature. GOOD LUCK JIMBO!!
  4. NOPE!! James had one onboard DR. Yes they are lightweight but get a decent fish and they bend easily. The mesh is OK, dries fast as hooks easy to get out, but aviod if you want a strong hardwearing net. I have one of these and I think it is superb - it has netted 50lb eels and 31lb cod with ease. http://www.shakespeare-fishing.co.uk/Product32.asp?line=7905 Not a fantastic picture, but it also has an aluminium handle and frame, but much stronger. The mesh is green heavy duty nylon.
  5. Conger are actually very worthwhile targeting during the comp as 100% is only 40lb. Keeping them alive is the tricky bit. We used a large continental carp sack which we tethered to the stern cleat, this kept the fish alive all day and its in the dark also. Coming back a large bin or drum filled with freshwater or a livebait tank will keep it alive long enough for the run back. Last year we didnt have the latter and as we got caught out in snotty conditions it took longer to get back, the eel died about 2 miles from shore. Personally I think their are many other fish that taste better than an eel, but if you have a dead one on your hands then have a taste. My advice - if you dont think you can get it back alive and dont want to eat it, put it back - is it really worth the prize money??? Failing that, pout and doggies are worth targetting!!!

Matt, Why dont you get it from Talbot fisheries - it is 60p a box cheaper - worthwhile if you are buying a few surely? Whichever way, yes, Ill have six. Adam
  8. Nice story! That added interest to a wet and windy night then! I take it you were out on Maverick. Yep, mad it right - I wouldnt have wanted to be out in that!!
  9. Duncan, Stainless Peter made me one of the quality stainless steel jobbies last year and I also havent managed to source net for it yet. I have tried trawl netting but it makes the whole unit so damn heavy.... Anyway - in the meantime I have bought a cheap Shakespeare job, and whilst it isnt anywhere near as strong as the SS one, it is light, smaller and more compact - therfore I have decided to keep this one and not bother with the SS one. If you want it you are welcome for the price I paid......you can have it with the fender I promised! Then all you need is some netting! Adam

  12. I simply booked mine through East Dorset Adult Learning on the web. Worth bringing up at the next club meeting - Martin and I were discussing a large scale course and as the club has so much excess cash it would be a great idea (last comment made tounge firmly in cheek before the comments start!! )

    Prop Damage

Terry, although you have the Bigfoot so a slightly larger prop than mine - a new one would be about 60-70 quid I think. Prop Rev. have done a few repairs for me and never charged over

    Prop Fins

Take them off and try them, see if difference. They may work they may not - it depends on the boat. Yes you will loose top end speed, but it may make the boat plane quicker and hold the sea better - it did on Tara.
  15. I have the perfect answer! Click here: http://www.iespell.com/download.php Follow the on-screen instructions, re-start your PC and voil

Welcome Tim - see you at a meeting some time. Adam
  18. Same on mine Dave - Its just a normal trait of the steering system, about an 1" movement?

    Tope

I would be interested - have been thinking of it for a while.
  20. ....Thats a funny name for a boat - I can see Solent Coastguard not seeing the funnyside!!!
  21. Did anyone watch that show on Sat night....spell check the nation...or something similar. It had a great section where it showed that Bristol University had proved that it doesnt matter if the word is spelt wrong, as long as the first and last letters are correct - the human brain will still read the word correctly! 'Poole Bay Samll Baot Anlging Culb is baesd in Poole, Dosret and caetrs for mebmers with small baots who wish to fish in the aera'
  22. BW hasnt been near the water for over 3 weeks now, so would like to get out this weekend....whats the weather looking like? Anyone else going out? What / where is worth going....as you can tell my finger has well and truely slipped of the pulse recently! Adam
  23. Not too sure but I think he is an Aquafish 23, blue hull and white topsides...moors up the river. I have seen he out quite a few times (if it is this boat) It always makes me laugh when I see these adverts....'30 knots - 25 knot cruise'....'fastest boat in the fleet - 40 knots' etc, etc..... Not that I have been on loads of charter boats, but enough to know that none of them ever use this speed. I think the best Ive ever seen/got is on the modern cats about 18 knots cruising. Im not knocking the skippers at all, as economical fuel issues etc are more important, but if you arnt/wont use the speed, then why advertise it! Adam
  24. Rich - Id love to buy a jar next time we meet.....Mmmmmmmm honey!!
  25. Coddy, I was a CAC member for 6 years and from what I can remember the rules were such: Club waters end at the bottom of the Clay Pool - this is for both bank and boat, for coarse and sea trout / salmon (you need a licence for the last two) downstream from here the bank is the only place you need a licence or day ticket until you get the the run which is then the beach and therfore free to all. I have fished for 4 years from the boat spinning for mullet below the clay pool and have never been asked for a ticket. PJ may be able to comment more accuratly as he was a member until last season. For a definitive answer Loni's or Davis tackle should know. Adam
