  1. A tricky one to decide!... As Duncan says Dogs and Smoothies also come under to same banner, and I seem to remember a doggie taking a top prize last year?? So where do you draw the line? I certianly wouldnt kill a smoothy or spur just for a prize, but I would consider for a doggie?? IMHO we should say no Sharks, Ie. Porgies, Blues and Threasher and no Tope. Anything else is to the anglers discretion.
  2. Maybe Newboy - Ill have to see how things are at work 2moro - Ill let you know. Adam
  3. Billy - I fancy catching (eating!) some of these huge squid...tell me more about catching them? Adam
  4. Woops! Just read all the posts and have overstepped myself!, sorry! Didnt know that was a grinner though...I have ALWAYS been taught that the 'Uni-knot' is how you tie them, and that a Uni and a Grinner are one and the same. Where is the source for the knots bob?
  5. Or Grinner, as it is maybe better known.
  6. Tucked blood knot if Im not mistaken? Not a bad knot, but you loose about 30-40% of the BS of the line.....a double tucked is better, loosing only 20% or so. The grinner or palomar are 2 of the best. Adam

    AC/DC 12v????

Hmmmm, I also saw them...the 240V supply is bare wires and not a socket, therefore I need a transformer like the ones used for 12V downlighters, but supplying DC not AC.
  8. Agree with both the above - they are allowed in all other matches throughout the year, so this 1 wont hurt....I personally would have problems bringing any fish that I wont eat back to the scales if I cant keep it alive....a big eel caught on the 1st chuck of the day included...Im not too sure how well he will like sitting in a fish box covered in a few inches of water for 6 hours....
  9. I have bought a set of 12V DC L.E.D lights for the bathroom. I have a 240V AC source....I want to interconnect these two, so presumably I need a 204v-12v, AC - DC Transformer?? Am I right, and is this available easily and most importantly, cheaply?
  10. We are 1 year old today!!!! Much thanks goes to all who assist in the running of the site, esp. Paul D - who without it would not be possible! Hers's to many more years online!!.. Adam
  11. Martin, Trying to bribe Rach at the moment - I think she will be up for it....let you know! Adam

Draw it in MS Word, then attach the file - see my Bass article on the main site.
  14. Martin was looking for a non competing member for the the Nov comp....will you be able to drive?!!
  15. Alan, Baiter is the slip I used when I took you out....no problem for a 150 or a 165, harder to laucnh than retreave with little water - give yourself at least an hour of building tide and youll be fine. Adam
  16. I think you will find that Pan Pan Medico no longer exists as from the recent introduction of DSC, you just use a normal Pan Pan. Was told this by the VHF instructor on my recent course. Adam
  17. I too have also just got my ticket. I was able to use the radio before hand, but would not have been comfortable doing a Maday or PanPan. Ok, so it cost around
  18. Paul - Ill probably stick to Poole or Xchurch. I want to go after the Cod and I know the waters better this way. I meant to get you to do a safety check on BW on Sun - she is all kitted and waiting now. Do you fancy crewing on Sat/Sun and doing the check at the same time? Adam

    New Rod on test

Thanks for that - I also couldnt find much on the net when I was looking, even Penn's website didnt help! I have matched it to my TG15 Okuma LD, which I bought abotu 6 months ago. They are a good match. Only problem now is that I need another reel for the 50lb Abu...might go TLD20, but after Xmas. Pretty pleased with the TG15, lovely and smooth, and loads of winching power - it got its best test in the summer off the Anvil for the Tope, 2lbs of lead, 5 knots of tide and big tope - she just winched them on in! On the downside, the decals have rubbed of, and a couple of the plastic covers have rubbed away. Would I get one again?...probably not. Not a bad reel by any means but for

    Hi Sean

Hi Sean, Welcome! Sounds though your new boat will be a real cracker!...when is she ready? The forum is a great place to gleam plenty of tips - joining the club opens up even more possibilities as most of us have found out over the past years. Where are you based? Adam
  21. Nice - Ill be out weather and fishing pass dependant!!! May go for Saturday - Ill need crew anyone up for it?

  23. Made a bit of an impluse buy on ebay last week...
  24. Splash-Out with Paul J and BW with Rich JAW headed out for a Cod session on Sunday before the crack of dawn. The 1st 2 boats in the CP, we were launched and heading out at 6.30am!! The channel bouys have now been moved from the harbour BTW - fine on the way out, but coming in we had to take care - the plotter really showed its worth! It was like a mill pool in Xchurch bay, so we skipped over to the Island in less than 20 mins! Anchored in the productive mark on Weds, we sat back to await the action! Dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs...oh....and more dogs!! After 2 hours we decided that we should give the gully a go, so we nipped over there. No tide at all, and when it did start to run it was a miserable piddle of a flow! As Martin said - no more than 6-8oz all day even off the needles! Dogs a plenty again - I really cannot remember catching so many dogs, I rekon over 40 to my rods during the day! We had a brief spell of whiting with Rich taking the best at 1lb 15oz...(sorry rich, even bouncing the scales didnt add another ounce!) At 2.30 we called it a day and headed home. Back on the slip we met with a few regulars who all recalled a similar day. Oh well, always next time!

    Boat Storeage

Hi Coddy, At West Moors, youll be less than 5 mins drive from where I live! I would love to say that Ill have it on my drive, but I dont think she would like that! 1 Warrior is bad enough, but 2 would be pushing it..... I am sure you could find some where reasonably closeby....just trying to think?? There are plenty of Caravan type parks and sites around this area maybe they would be worth a try? Ill have a think and a look around over the next few days and let you know if I come up with any ideas. I presume the rental house has no room for a boat? The last option is to look for some cheap winter storage in Christchurch?....10 min drive from West Moors and 3 slips to choose from? Adam
