  1. Small Eyed Ray, new PB...6lb
  2. Ballan - 3lb
  3. It has now been 3 weeks since the little incident at Kimmeridge. Blue Warrior has sat on the drive since and I havent been out. Seeing as Im on holiday all this week and Egypt has been cancelled due to a new 60hp Mariner, Rach and I decided to make the most of the sunshine and get a few hours in. Rather strange launching BW again after last time, kept remembering how bad it all was, but pleased to report all went fine and we had a good day to boot. I just wanted to run the engines up, and check the boat was OK after her repairs. She is fine and good as new. Rach however seems to have been bitten by the fishing bug!! 5 hours of fishing and the tide is dropping by the second and she still insists on 'just one more cast!'......I was packed up and waiting to go home! We had a good day fishing the shallow water ledge marks. Final tally: 30 odd Wrasse (corkwing, ballan, rock cook and cuckoo) to 3lb, doggies and a lovely 6lb Small eyed...mosted to rach's rods! Came in at 5pm, overall a great day, nice and relaxing and good to get out again! Thurs is back to 'proper' fishing....James and I are having a trip from Weymouth.
  4. I have a TLD15 and TLD20. The 15 is use for general rough ground fishing, bass, conger, ray, pirking etc. It sits on 30lb Abu and is perfectly matched. I love the smooth lever drag and it is very light. I am currently looking for another. The 20 is on a 50lb Abu and gets used for heavy duty only. Tope in deep fast water, big eels and codding in big solent tides, good as the 15, but a little more cumbersome. I havent got a TLD10, but have the newer replacement which is the Charter Special 1000LD. This is on a 12lb Abu and is my favourite set up of the lot. I have had eels to 40 on this as well as 12oz red mullet and each still gave a great fight - a truely versatile set up.
  5. Ed - it isnt against any forum rules, but their is a Wanted and a For Sale section on the forum, just so you know. Sounds a bargin! - Im sure youll have no problem selling it. BTW, Ebay may be worth a bash, Marine Electronics usually fetch a good price on there. Adam
  6. Nice new reef mark to fish then!
  7. I presume you are talking about this one? If so, then yes you are correct. PBSBAC.co.uk is now nearly a year old (next month) and in that time well over 5000 posts must have been posted. The site gets huge numbers of hits each day and in the past year I rekon that almost everything to do with boats has been discussed in some way or another. Joining the club for
  8. Did you re-use all the bolts and nuts and caps? What silicone did you use?
  9. I think I may have the same one - is it the one with the quick change jaws?? I had 20 packs of discontinued blades from work and they all get spat out after a few seconds....I went and bought pukka B&D ones and no problem...they have a 'v' shaped tip as opposed to a pointed tip if that makes sense. It looks as though you made a great job - wanna do mine when youve finished!!
  10. That is spot on Alan - good job matey! How hard was it to do? I think now Ive seen the results Ill have a go myself. Adam

    6lb Class rod

Can anyone recommend a half decent 6lb class rod? I already have a 12lb, and numerous spinning rods and what something inbetween. About 7' long, a bit of backbone if I need it and a nice light tip. ?????? Adam
  13. Cracking report BB - I have always fancied giving the species bashing a go, makes a change from the norm. What part of the harbour did you fish? Which bit do I need a licence for? Any tips on tackle and baits? Im off on holiday all next week, so may give it a bash then. Adam

    Crew Friday

Forget it - the window has dissaperaed over night, F4-5 all day....will this ever let up? I think I have been out on my boat about 50% of the time compared to last year, it really has been a crap year for weather!
  15. No more bent props then!!
  16. Im away all weekend, and the weather shows a little window on Friday - anyone fancy a trip out? Adam

    CUBA

The site will be a quiet place for the next few weeks!...dont know if that is a good or a bad thing!! How long you going for miguel loco?? Have a goodun - we'll all just sit here in the cold and the rain!
  19. I used the same method on BW's old graphics on a cold (ish) april day and they worked fine. Agree that plastic or wood are safer, but the cutting edge isnt as sharp, therefore you need to press harder and therefore risk damage - the Stanley blade just glides underneath with minimal effort. The effect of a razor blade on gell is similar to the effect when using the Stanley scraper on glass - which is what it is designed for. Gel is actually pretty hard stuff and by keeping a shallow angle on the blade it will do no damage. A case of suck it and see I suppose?
  20. Good stuff! I was impressed by the BFM review a few months back. Good link too - and reasonably priced. If I needed an Alderney set-up, this is something Id consider. Adam
  21. When I sailed for the 1st time in the summer the owners of the fleet of charter yachts in Southampton use a company to provide the graphics for the boat for the day. Basically they make the logo - (could be a 10' long Coca Cola banner for example) they arrive in the morning, slap it on the hull of the boat, and when the boat docks for the night, they arrive again and whip it off ready for the next day. What did they use?.....a red Stanley razor blade scraper! I was astounded as I would imagine it to damage the gel, so I asked how they did it. Basically it just slides along the gel and under the graphics removing them in the process! When I did new decals on BW, I used the same tool - worked perfectly in one go with no chemicals. Easy, quick and cheap - I would recommend this method. PS: a quick blast with a little T-Cut removed the 'shadow-effect'
  22. Bob - Id be surprised if it is meant to do that, as you have proved it is very dangerous in the wrong situation. My new 60hp Mariner has what Barrus call an 'engine guardian system' basically this means the ECU monitors the engine and when something goes wrong it minimises the risk, ie: Engine oil gets low, the EGS backs the revs off to 2000, the cooling system is faulty - same effect, 2000 revs, and over revving, possibly caused by the prop out of the water - the EGS cuts it back to 2000. Could have just been one of those things, but may be worth having it checked out...second thoughts, after last time - maybe not!!!
  23. Steve, Our next Hayling trip will be next spring for the Plaice, well organise something a little nearer the time. Adam

  25. Hi Grant. Finding a boat should be no problem. A few questions though.... 1.) Do you want a cuddy / cabin - or do you want an open boat. 2.) You say small and lightweight? Give us an idea of what size. My boat is 16.5' and weighs about 800kgs, yet I can still tow it with a family car and launch her single handed. A 14' open dory though is much lighter and easy to handle 3.) Is it just for fishing the harbour or do you want to venture out as you become more confident? www.boatsandoutboards is a cracking site - keep an eye out here. I would always advise on getting as new an engine as possible, boats are relativly cheap to repair, engines usually aint! Finally, give us a rough idea on your budget? Adam
