Bad luck Mick They do say every day is a fishing day, but not every day is a catching day. Doubt that helps or the fact that the WSF trip reports from the banks were slow. better luck next trip mate Charlie

Not neccesarily the structures themselves that would help the fishing although the pontoons here at work grow weed and other life that attracts small fish which in turn Pollack and Bass enjoy. If the area already had some underwater features even better. But if they put in an area of these things, they will no doubt insist on a no entry /fishing zone. The effect of which should be a Nursery area. It has been found abroad that the benifits of such an area is good to surrounding areas, when the mature fish have to move out. lets hope if they get these built they are not on our best fishing spots Charlie

Hi Guys we buy our box section from James Bros look them up and give the stockroom a call for prices If you have a list of sizes and lengths [from the old one] they may have some of it in the offcuts bin. but steel is still pricey Best of luck Charlie

What a nice weekend The weather on Friday stopped us going over early, and Dan needed to be at college today so we were very limited. Will was able to join us for a couple of days so we left Poole early Sat Fished on the way over, then arrived just after AWOL at about 1700. we berthed with no problem in the cove area, shower, changed paid berthing fee then off to the george for supper. [We don't really chain Will to our cooker] The food and beer were good and we moved to the Sailers return to meet up with the WSF crews. What a fine bunch of obviously enthusiastic anglers, they had come from far and wide in a variety of boats [i will add a picture later] Sleeping onboard on the shortest night of the year had me awake early and off for a walk, back for bacon butties for breakfast, then just as the others arrived to get ready we were off. a long day on the wrecks so I decided to go home the 30 miles or so rather than into weymouth and home that night [an extra 25-30 miles.] It was a shame we only had 1 night to join the chatting and drinking, but we really enjoyed it while we were there, the boat is on her mooring with the pennant flying. I hope that the weather stays good for the week and Martin, Dean and all continue to have a great week. Great trip glad we went Charlie

Hi Dave Dan and I bought some rods at Christmas, they are Diawa Kensaki the ones we bought were 30/50 but sem to be a very light action. Will who regulary fishes with us bought one of the lighter ones, and I bought a 6-12 version when in Alderney for breaming/bassing. over the months our confidence has grown with these rods, so much so that they are being used pollacking over wrecks and cod fishing on the summer cod marks. Now we are used to them they are fast becoming favorites Charlie

OOps forgot I will lighten the mood when I can post the video footage Toms laughing policman impression when a line parted is well worth listening too , I wish I had the skill to edit it to play it back over and over as Dan does using the camera. and Tom's tiptoe around the conger in flip flops is also worth a look. as soon as I can I will try and get it on here, I may brin it over to you Tom Charlie -

Hi Duncan/Neal When I talked to Tom last week about trying to get him out fishing while his boat is in for repair, he said he would love to come on a general offshore trip. With the hope to get his line pulled by a weighty fish and also maybe a go at cod/pollack. I offered him a trip at the weekend when the weather gave us a green light for both days, even if it meant it would have to be at short notice if he could change Abbeys mind. When he did get the go ahead he booked in for the comp even before he could confirm with me, {we were offshore] I expect he hoped for a large specimen, but also wanted too support Adams request for more Members to take part. [ better not get on to that subject ] This is just background I know Tom can give and take stick, he got enough on Sunday and I will leave that too him But I wonder that if these fish are so average where the above average ones are? [answers on a post card please phone ,e mail anything Please ] I make no excuse or secret that the boys and I enjoy congering : , but in all the years I have done so, I have never managed to get over a wreck that produces fish to make these mediocre. [62lb is my PB by the way] That includes fishing large comps and conger championships in weymouth and Plymouth when it had a reputation for the odd 100lb eel. That aside its only fishing and its only for fun. We don't fish for eels for badges or trophies we do it because they fight back. and they go back well afterwards Tom I would love to join you as soon as Dan and the boys have sorted that engine. If it drags on, you are more than welcome on Alfresco, Duncan you are also welcome any time. Charlie -
Dan have a look at the Bayzand range through Alderney angling on his mail order pages. Mark has a good selection of artificials Charlie

I have heard that said many times by a few Members, and no doubt its a friendly tongue in cheek comment. But I put the record list together a few years ago, using information from the catch recording book that was started when the Club was first formed in I believe 1992. and those two meadiocre eels are the two best in all that time. Tom caught them on balanced kit using a lot of angling skill and competitive or not has IMHO earned the right to talk about it. Charlie -
Sure looks like you needed a good fish this year to get into the top 10 no matter the top three spots. well done all I look forward to seeing the final results Charlie
