Charlie, How about I pop round next week and talk this over with you rather than going into reams of writing here. IMO you will have a choise between what you Need and what one might want. Naturaly one is a lot cheaper than the other! But both will serve a purpose Mad Mike

Has Bob F splashed out on a new splash out? A rather nice Orkney 23 called Splash Out came past us near Old Harry and recognising the name but not the boat I think I might have been waving like a lunatic to someone I don't know! Mad Mike

Also, as my bargain Smart Tabs arrive from the USA tomorrow, I would welcome any installation advice and tips from those that have trod the Smart Tab trail before me. Mad Mike

Thank's Adam, if it had been their boat I was going to offer to go down to Cobbs and make the flapping canopy etc tidy again. It's a shame when one sees a nice boat suffering through neglect. Mad Mike

I havent seen any posts by Jack for a bit, and I was wondering if he was OK. Is his boat called Two Jacks? There is an Arvor on a pontoon at Cobbs which is looking a bit delapidated and it has got me wondering. Mad Mike

A bit of flying spray there then eh Sam. I was only doin' 10 knts honest gov' Had a grat day off Ballard, mackerel, LSD's, nice bream and georgeous red gurnard. But by about 4 it had blown up to a force 5 and it was getting uncomfortable for an old bloke like me . We tried a few drifts on that area in the harbour that you showed us but the wind was pushing over the tide and we couldn't present the baits properly. So we started thinking about a take away Chicken Biriani and that did it mate Back to Cobbs in a hurry!! Mad Mike

That's the stuff I was talking about. I agree with Duncan it will do perfectly. Rather than buy a big dollop I can give you a lump of similar stuff if your near Bournemouth. Mad Mike

Oh yes indeed I got mine about a month ago it's a 10/20 coupled with an Abu6500 Left hand wind and 15lb braid. It's a great outfit and feels so powerfull yet flexible. My fishing partner Mark was so impressed with it he asked me to look out for a slightly lighter one for him hence the new 8/15 one I mentioned. He will use it with a Fladen 7500 fixed spool (also off ebay

Back in the 50's I once had a girlfriend who liked to show off her 'tan' . This was in the days before sun beds and what she did was use Bisto and water to dye her skin. The relationship ended one summer evening when leaving the cinema we got caught in a shower and her skin ran off in brown streaks. My hysterical laughter was probably the blame Mad Mike

Actualy may I make a request of the commitee guys on the back of this post. How about making some rigs up (out of coloured line?) and laying them out on a table or two so we can have a teach in at an upcoming monthly meeting?? Seeing summat in the flesh so to speak makes it far easier to copy than the pages of a book. Mad Mike

Many boat manufacturers use rivets and with suitable sealants behind the joints they are perfectly satisfactory, but as always there is a BUT In this case the BUT is that the rivets used in boat making should be made of a metal called MONEL. (rivets made of monel are also used in aircraft construction) Monel rivets are impervious to salt water corrosion but the metal is much much stronger than the normal ally rivets. And this is sometimes the cause of them not being used. To compress them into use either an air pwered rivet gun is needed or a bloody great 'Lazy Tongs' device, an ordinary plier action type doesn't work unless one is Superman. So what happens is if a lazytong isn't available jolly Jim the workman slaps in a few ally rivets 'cos no one will spot the differance for a couple of years. You can buy monel rivets from some chandlers (very expensive like 25p each, which is yet another reason they might not be used) or try a local fixings company like Allfix in Poole. Other than that S/S screws will do but they must be 316 quality for use at sea. the catalogue company Screwfix do a bloody good S/S all purpose screw with a great cutting and holding thread, it's their Stainless steel Turbo range. Kam I was recommended to do this by a guy at Orange Broadband and I must say it has worked a treat. Do a Google search for EWIDO and download their free 'Anti-Malware 3.5' After instalation run it before you close down the PC at night (aprox 5 min's) it locates and removes all sorts of nasties that come into your PC on the back of regular downloads and information searches. Not advisable as TV coax uses 75 ohn impedance connections, whereas the marine VHF radios use 50 ohm impedence connections. The connector you need to connect to the radio ( assuming you need a new plug ) is a PL259 which is

Allen you just asked about an engine, but when it comes to your very reasonable expectation "hopefully caught a few fish ". Strewth mate that really will be a can of worms (sic) . For a start why not try someth simple question like "When fishing for bream how long should my trace be?" I would guess the totaly conflicting answers will run into 3 if not 4 pages, several 'bitch' fights and at least one resignation! I seem to remember a year ago or so someone asked "are rag worms a good bait?" The resultant arguments lead to one suicide, three cases of slander and 12 month course of therapy for one of the unfortunates who dared to become involved That's the great thing about fishing .... It's so bloody relaxing Mad Mike
