Happy birthday mate and many of them. Mad Mike

First off you MUST get the engine number as no dealer will be able to help without that. You could try Bucklers Hard Marine near Lymington Hants, they are very helpful Yamaha dealers and I think the Mariner of that age is Yammy based. Other than that try a Google search for both Mariner and Outboard spare parts. Oh and Ebay is worth a look under Outboards - Mariner. Mad Mike

OK guys, I have just spoken to a 5hitty little jobs worth at Bournemouth Trading Standards. After trying to get past his jobsworthness on the point of Retailers CHOISE I found out the following. There is NO law prohibiting the sale or supply of petrol into a 5 gallon(25ltr) purpose made container, to be used in an internal combustion engine subsequently. However a retailer for his own reasons may refuse to sell one petrol. BUT IT CERTAINLY IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW and therefore it is perfectly within the law. But all the retailer has to say is "I don't want to serve you anyway" and you cant make him sell you fuel HOWEVER IT IS AN OFFENCE TO STORE MORE THAN ONE AND A QUARTER GALLONS IN THE HOME OR GARAGE. So if you are filling an empty tank on the way to go fishing that day you are not breaking any law. Filling it up today for a trip tomorrow and storing the tank in or arround your property brakes the law. There is a futher complication if one wishes to be pedantic........ Each county/bourough councill has it's own guide lines. Some administered by the Fire Service some by Trading Standards. So basicaly if you ask the right question to get clarification and a jobsworth answers, you might as well not have bothered. Just find another petrol station! Mad Mike

Welcome.....What a rotten name for a boat! You coulda named it after one of the planets, say Uranus fr'instance Mad Mike

PS one adaption I have been thinking of is making a ply box to sit over the outboard, providing space for bait boards etc., just not sure how to keep an eye on the water tell tale with that on. Humm? Ooops that's a no no! What happens is the engine starts to rebreath its own exhaust gas and runs like a bag of snot. One can do something similar but you must make it more like a table with legs rather than an all encompasing box. Mad Mike PS can we call you two The Nymphettes?

Welcome Damon. What a lovely area to fish you have at your disposal. Are you as far north as Anglsea? Then there is that big shallow bay near Harlech (sp) that empties through a narrow straight. Shell Island is it? And Barmouth, all areas I have fished many years ago. Mad Mike

A timely reminder Paul but I fear that you are reminding the converted. I am always heartened by the skill and care shown by our club members. IMHO the attitude we have to our use of small boats and our hobby only goes to confirm the need for a proper small boat basic skills licence and regestration of craft for every water user. Last Sunday I was suprised at the large number of 'quality' power boats very obviously going well over 10kts in Poole harbour. I mention quality of boat because I am bl00dy certain these flash gits have sufficient equipment on board to show a true speed. Mad Mike

I just had IMO a good deal off ebay, a company in Ohio is selling Smart Tabs discounted and free P&P within the US. That together with the good GBP Vs $US rate I paid

There's nothing like a flock of Lorikeets dropping pine nuts THAT'S IT!! I remember now The parrots/keets nest/fly round/ feed on the pine trees in and around Sandbanks and Canford cliffs. Mad Mike

I will be out on a family picnic and play day Trevor. Probable Studland for an ice cream at some point then Old Harry or there abouts for lunch and if it's too choppy or full of chavs on PWC's then we will beetle of to Bramblebush bay inside the harbour and in the PM a slow chug round looking at all the posh folk in their floating Tuppleware. Might end up near the RSPB forshore at Arne too. Mad Mike Pride of Morpork

There are several grey parrot flocks in the New Forest according to the local press and twitchers (My sons girlfriends mother is a raving twitcher). Also I understand that the Lilliput and Sandbanks area has a small flock of Greys. The basis of the flocks were escaped birds that have developed into small breeding flocks. Apparantly they seem to thrive in the south of England. Mad Mike

G'won you know you wanna The originator of this idea has no responsibility to anyone brave enough to try it MAD Mike

i have put a15hp on ,do you reckon i will get 10kts or more? :rolleyes No The Sea Nymph is a displacement hull and displacement hulls have a more or less unbending formula for speed in Knts. 1.5 X the Sq root of the WATER LINE length = The hulls top speed I guess the W/L length of your hull is about 16ft Therefore the square root is 4 and 4 X 1.5 is 6 Knts. In use one may expect a little more on smooth water but there comes a point when the back has sunk down and the bow has come up so that there is a 'hill' that the boat will never climb. It looks daft, wastes fuel, and the boat goes no faster. This 'hill or hump' of water just behind the bow which is what a planeing hull is able to slip over (given enough power) to achieve planeing speed. The speed at which various hulls achieve this point at is called (If you will pardon the expression) the hulls 'hump' speed. Mad Mike

I saw a human arm and hand come up out of the water. It moved violently from side to side. I was puzzled at first, but then I realized it was just a wave. Mad Mike

She looked VERY NICE on the water. We first saw you bow up coming towards us, it looked like you were just getting up on the plane. Then just a smart she looked the dogs cajones as we passed each other at 30mph (?) The Souter is a real boaty shaped boat not at all like the greenhouse cockpits of the 21st century.... (Rebuttal from Tom expected by return) Mad Mike

17 ft Dell Quay Dory, 50 hp Evenrude O/B (runs sweet looks crap) On two wheeled scruffy (silver painted) but very useable trailer. Teak thwarts, teak side consul, twin batteries. Very good condition with little use. However it was left in a driveway for years and was covered with geen euk and bird sh1t. Now it has been professionaly cleaned and the wood scraped back to clean and oiled.

Give the comp a go Mike, Bl00dy boats! I hate them Went to test run the engine today and there is no electrical power at all Everything was fine a week ago, now bupkiss, nada, nowt. Battery is fine, all connectors look fine, got power to the auxiliaries (lights etc) just the blinking engine side is dead. Can't even get the little beggar to tilt down to get the top off! Ahh well, a later start tomorrow as it's 8.30 am round to Sam Trickett and with luck we will/should/might be on the water later on. Mad (Spitting feathers actualy) Mike

OH YES INDEEDY I had several freelining fresh prawns. Near Isla Medio Luna off the Cayos. Strewth did they go Lost the first one then changed to a very fine wire trace and I was ok after that. The chef had given me loads of fresh squid and loads of prawns, so I spent some time chucking out chopped up bits into the tidal current. In the end it was a fish a cast and I never thought I could get that tired out fishing. Unless they got off you were into a good 5 min of hard fight each time. Mad Mike

Now my spine is finaly showing good recovery I am going out this Saturday. But where? I am not fishing the competition and don't want to get in the way of those who are, so where do you sugest for a fishy adventure? My thoughts are possible Whitehouse Grounds to the west or a trip to Southbourne and the ledge to the east. A few mackerel first then a nice day sitting at anchor over fish central will do nicely. Any thoughts?? Mad Mike
