    Virus

Right, bearing in mind I have no idea at all about 'computer speak' I have tried to download this AVG gizmo and indeed it downloads. However when I try to open it (?) I get a dialog box that says my PC (and /or Microsoft on my PC) 'Can not find an associated file to open it'. It then gives me a link to find this missing file and from that point on I can not understand or act upon any of the instructions from these sites????????????????????????????????????????????? Please ANYONE how do I get an antivirus as I now have none at all as I have deleted/removed 'Avast' as it was corrupted? Still pi55ed Mad Mike

    Virus

I am realy PI55ED with this. I have been onto Microsoft and they have put me onto a program called 'Ewido' which is supposed to clean it out but so far it hasn't. Microsoft are calling me again tomorrow to see if their advice worked. The Trojan is a scam by an opperation called Spy-Sheriff who once they have infected your PC want you to buy their very expensive cure for their own bl00dy virus. If any one (Paul D, Bob) knows how to get rid of this shlt now is the time to speak!! Mad Mike

    Bfm

As Duncan says .......Personally I remain of the view that the subject of knots has not yet been done even half decently by any UK magazine in the last 10 years - and that includes the SA series that started well but basically lost the plot. With the increased interest in lighter line fishing knots start to become important - tieing the hook to an 80lb trace for cod is somewhat less critical when using 30lb mainline. Also more 'How To's' on trace making, terminal tackle set ups, and articles on the sort of boat fishing we do, ie inshore in small boats. It's all very well the editorial staff having a jolly in a bl00dy great charter boat over wrecks and areas only a few of the more financialy better off can get to, what about the thousands of weekend boat fishers in their own 18ft trailer boats? Talking boats, how about tips and ideas of cockpit layouts, deck space and storage schemes. In other words things that relate to the real world not some azure blue sea 5000 miles away. Mad Mike
  6. Maldives fishermen in drugs haul Locals are said to have been concerned by the size of the cache A group of fishermen in The Maldives got more than they bargained for when they reeled in the country's largest ever drugs haul, local media reports. The lobster catchers found 1,697 plastic bags packed with cannabis in a lagoon, Haveeru news agency reported. The drugs on the ocean floor weighed in at over 1.6 tons in total. Police are investigating the incident. Drug smuggling in the island paradise is punishable by death, although no-one has ever been executed for the crime. According to the Haveeru Daily newspaper the scale of the drugs haul has caused tension among local people who are insisting that police must destroy it in a transparent manner. Mad Mike

IMHO Any issue of BFM has poor content in the way of articles that are relavent to UK fishing, far too many photographs of faces with fish, an overabundance of advertising in relation to editorial, and is very poor value for money. Mad Mike
  8. WELL DONE SAM! You have every right to feel proud of yourself. Keep the feeling of success and remember it whenever you have a difficult task to do. This proves YOU CAN DO IT. Mad Mike
  9. Yep, I reckon not only the worry about tension stress in the s/s screws, pull though in the holes in the nylon, but he shoulda wieghed the nylon dry added 10% for the water + and an addition 'cos it's salt water then added that to the lb per sq inch calculation for the total weight of the boat in relation to the trim tabs actuating pressure. Mad Mike
  10. D'you know Kam I think his sirname is Trickett, I've always known him as Sam. Mad Mike
  11. Try Sam 07810 561520 He is a freelance O/B mechanic, he does a lot of work for 'Boatstart' and various marinas. Nice bloke, not over expensive, comes round to you. Say 'Shauns uncle in law, Mike, gave you the number'. Mad Mike
  12. OK who's gonna do the horse manure and rhubarb joke then? Mad Mike
  13. Your dead right and guess what's in Rhubarb leaves? Oxalic acid! Mad Mike
  14. There are Yamaha cables and cables that will fit a yamaha control box. Infact there are cables to be had with ends that will go into a Yammy box and control a Mercury engine. I would sugest it is worth having a look on ebay for a generic cable rather than the Yammy dealers full retail price. Have a look at http://search.ebay.co.uk/outboard-control-...Q3aTB2Q3aUKQ3a2 Mad Mike
  15. Oxalic Acid - Available from a Chemist in crystal form, mix with water but be carefull as it is classed as a poison !!!. Cleans GRP a treat. For mold and rust stains I have found Cillit Bang great and it's available in most supermarkets. Mad Mike
  16. 10-4 good buddy. Wots yer 20? I've got a 9-11 on my G4 next to my 118-118 I guess I'll have to 1471 till I one-stop. Dubber Ruck
  17. Haven is where all good little boys and girls go, so thinking about it I have to say it's something you won't have to worry about Muddybum Mad Mike
  18. Brilliant, I loved it Mind you a Mudhopper is better than being a Shingleslider so you watch out for Stony Island Tom. It's on the left as you go out of the Haven mate, so you just keep well over to the right inside those two big red floating jobbies Mad Mike (or Honest Mad Mike the man you can trust)

    Sea Nymph?

Yes he is right it's a Sealy Sea Nymph. If I am right it has an inboard mounting for an outboard in a sort of well? The Sealy's were built in the 70's but subsequently others have used the mold to make their versions of the craft. If I remember rightly from a Practical Boat Owner review I read at the time, the manufacturer (Sealy) rated it up to a 15hp, but IMO it would behave well with anything from 8hp up to 15hp. Some were built with a windscreen molding with the perspex inserted like windows in the GRP. The hull was molded in mock clinker style, a quite full beamed displacement design. Mad Mike

    Copper?

As they used to use copper to sheathe the old sailing clippers you can rest assured that it is inert in sea water. However the poisons in copper that made it resistant to fouling and marine growth might do the lobsters a bit of no good. Mad Mike
  23. Well congrats on being brave enough to get out in nasty weather, but you have just resolved my feelings that I did right in staying home and gaining brownies. I often feel a bit envious when I see the younger guys reports of cod and pollock taken from windswept cold and gloomy seas. Then sometimes I gird my loins into the winter clobber and brave the biting wind and try a trip out. Usualy by the time I'm rounding the Haven I'm thinking "Why have I done this?" then after a fishless hour or so I'm thinking "You bloody fool Mike go home" ....and I do Mad Mike
  24. Trevor, you need to decide between the two ways of resolving this issue. It is generaly accepted in the yaching world and that includes motor boats as well that 5 to 6 layers of hard anti foul is as much as an owner should allow to build up. One can check the layers a bit like a tree trunk by chipping off a bit of A/F and seing how thick the total depth it is up to the gell coat. If you have a boat with say 6 or 8 years worth stuck on the bottom then the 'ideal' solution would be to have it wet sand blasted back to the gell coat and if one had any doubts about osmosis this would also be the time to take the gell coat off and replace it with about 4 layers of sprayed epoxy. All this as you can guess is BIG BUCKS! The DIY way.......... If the A/L has plateau's and valleys all over then you will have to accept that the DIY way is a mucky job and just has to be done. With a coarse wet and dry grit paper and plenty of soapy water give the underside a good rub down. The run off is toxic so goggles and masks are needed. Also if you do the job on grass nothing will grow there for years! Once you have the worst of the highs and lows leveled you are OK to slap on another coat of anti foul. To avoid the problems of 'build up' most folk opt for a 'soft' anti foul that disolves as the season progresses and the end of year lift and pressure wash takes the last of it off , the boat is then ready for a new coat. Whatever you do do not put Epoxy over a hull that has not been 100% cleaned back to bare gell coat. All sorts of nasty chemical reactions take place when the boat is in salt water This is caused by the uncured epoxy which is trapped in the old anti foul. Mad Mike
  25. Brilliant pictures Paul But they do bring up a pertinant point, namely the many moorings that genuine boat users would appreciate, that are blocked by selfish people with floating piles of crap. who simply renew their licence each year rather than surrender them for reallocation. Mad Mike
