Cheers Charlie, you have email mate!
-
I'm still hoping to find a victim to crew on mine Charlie, please include me in as a deffo if I can rope somebody in. Not sure I can make the pre trip meeting as I've got a load to get done next week to allow time to get down to the boat some time Thursday to fuel up etc. ready for an early start Friday. Paul

Anybody looking for a crew space?????
-
As a first timer I'll be looking to pick up a few tips along the way, will have to check with the other guys coming over from Portland to see what they have in mind. Anybody who was planning to crew for the original dates and now don't have a boat to crew on please get in touch if interested in the reserve dates. Paul

Had a look at the link and it looks like limited berthing if a few of us are going over? At least mooring is alongside so no water taxis to get to and from the boats. Are you guys still mulling over where to actually go should the weather gods smile on us?

Talking of steaks......................took the uvver arf out to one of the local pubs that gets them from the Newbottle estate, had a spot on 16oz rump with all the trimmings. If you can get to sample the Newbottle estate meats they are well worth a go!!

Just renewed my wrecksite membership and it looks like I can see the wrecks around Guernsey. Will have a look through for some interesting ones and put a list of numbers together if that helps mate?
-
Cheers Charlie, Just bought the charts for Alderney and Casquets so looks like I better sort the Guernsey one now GRRRR!! Paul
-
So can somebody just confirm what dates are now being considered and whether it will be Alderney or Guernsey please. I'll need to sort another crew victim, ideally somebody who is a non smoker and has a bit of fishing experience.

I'm up for it if any other boats are going from Portland and I can get crew
-
If you guys are out of Portland I'm up for going across whenever the weather window appears, one of the reasons I bought the bigger boat was to do a few Alderney trips. Usually able to get away at short notice.

Be good if we could avoid clashing with the WSF Portland boat meet dates of week starting 14th June.
-
Lets hope the weather picks up for next weekend or sounds like there won't be many of us making the trip on the reserve date!! Either works for me but will need to find a new crew for the later one AAAARGGHHHHHHHHHH!
-
How close to the event do you guys decide whether it is a goer? If cancelled will you look to go on another date?
-
Cheers Martin, looking forward to it, hope weather holds up for us! Going to be a bit of a rush to get ready last minute but I'm on the case!

Wonder how far out they went?? I visited some wrecks up to 16 miles off Portland yesterday and all the way out the water was filthy. Pinged up a couple of new wrecks a bit further west and had a couple of tentative takes but not a fish on the boat all day. Still looking for crew but also would need the Channel Islands card for my plotter if anybody knows where I might get one, it's a Standard Horizon CP1000, takes the same cards as the CP500 Just ordered the cmap card for the plotter so now just need the victim!

Sound like the ideal candidate to crew for somebody else ;)
-
Thanks for the info guys, I should have plenty of fuel to do the full trip but worth getting the info of what is available from those who have done the trip before. It makes sense to refill before the return trip. Still hoping to find crew for this trip.
-
Just been looking at a bit more info on the mooring mallarky and found this....http://www.visitalderney.com/files/managed/sail_to_alderney_guide.pdf Do any of you veterans make use of the duty free fuel or just take a few spare cans along? Still haven't managed to rustle up any victims, whoops meant to say crew to come on the trip but will keep asking around as I really like the idea of an Alderney trip.

Thanks Martin, Peter has been in touch to confirm that, I'm looking along the lines of perhaps sleeping on the boat but going ashore for the craic in the evenings. I can just imagine the usual mutts howling about "pirate chartering" if I posted on here and WSF looking for crew PMSL Paul The boat is pretty well fitted out for staying on board, when I'm down for a week at Portland I use the showers there and sleep on the boat. Usually hook up to the mains for heating but if no power available (probably need a longish cable to reach to the shore at Braye ;) I stick the Eberspacher on. I didn't think there would be much left by way of accommodation ashore at this late stage but will check it out. Do any of you guys stay over an extra day or two? Seems a long trip for such a short stopover?
-
Would love to join you guys this year, its a trip I've wanted to make for a while now. Is it feasible to sleep on the boat or are there only swinging moorings available? Probably a bit late to get sorted now, been a bit focused on sorting the June WSF meet at Portland. Are any others going across from Weymouth/Portland? I will read back to the start of the thread, just wanted to acknowledge the heads up from a couple of the guys here.

Haven't done the Alderney trip before but always fancied it. Please keep me up to speed with plans and any info on how it all works out guys. I would be leaving from Portland. Thanks for the heads up on this one Martin!!

Hmmm, all sounds a bit worrying, still at least there is no fear of launching problems in the near future as the bl**dy forklift is out of action at Portland!! It was originally going to take a couple of weeks to fix but that looks likely to run into 6-8 weeks. They offered to use the sailing academy hoist to launch the boat but given how it is sitting on the dry stack it would mean jacking the boat up to get straps under so that ain't going to happen. Got to say that in the short time we've been there the staff have all seemed helpful but it sounds as though they aren't infallible.

How did it go today??
