That Scottish one looks like a dead ringer for mine, right down to the tender and davits (which I've taken off mine). If you fancy some company to drive up and have a look give us a bell Niggle. Will let you know dates for Falmouth. Paul

Not sure why you don't have the Orkney 24 in your short list matey? I went through the same sort of decision making process recently as you know and had the Rodmans and more modern gin palace "eaue" types in there. The Orkney has plenty of fishing space, good accommodation levels, seems fairly reasonable on fuel and goes a fair bit quicker than most seem to think. Cat B rated which is handy. Probably looks a bit dated but to get the same performance out of the Rodman you'll need the twin engined version, it will have shaft drive and not the leg you prefer, lovely looking boat but maybe not as practical? It will probably use twice as much fuel. The other thing with the 24 is that it is still manageable on your own, I know you like to go out for a bit of peace and quiet sometimes It probably depends on how much you plan to use the boat as well, where I live I can't really justify having a boat at all but I do enjoy the breaks I take. Plan to do more this year now we've settled in the new house. You are welcome to come out on the boat any time, if you can get a few days off later this month I'm hoping to go back down and ping up a few wrecks ready for the WSF meet. Paul

Thanks all, some interesting replies! Looks like I will have to buy a diesel tank on wheels and take some of the farm red down to use in the boat LOL The whole fuel thing stinks in reality, we get caned whichever way we turn. Paul

Now I'm the owner of a boat with inboard diesel I'm trying to make sense of the fuel situation. I'm told that the 60/40 rule is being scrapped shortly but not sure if this is the case, also that the 60/40 can be claimed at a different ratio if one is using it predominantly for heating a long term moored boat. Seems daft to be paying pump prices for marine diesel, there must be a better way? Paul

You ain't been having much luck av you!

Well we went and gone and done it, now the owner of a tidy Orkney 24 Pilothouse. A few images on the WSF board for anybody interested: http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/show...980655-New-Boat Hope to catch up with you guys at some stage this year. Going to be interesting when two white hulled 24's get together, both named Osprey! Maybe that will make a few of the heavy drinkers do a double take? ))) Paul

Hey Nige, that's a real bummer mate! Hope you can get all the damage and losses sorted. There is something nasty about the privacy of your boat or house being invaded as well involved I imagine. Lowlife scumbags probably sell the gear for next to nothing but cause you a lot of grief. Can see now why you ain't had time to answer my question on how you were getting on with the 3D sounder. Catch up later matey, keep your chins up

Yes Charlie, have just re-engined the QS620 with a 115hp Optimax so that is the trailer boat well and truly sorted, the new one is to go on dry stack at Portland. Between middle of June and September I'll be looking to find a berth a bit further East so maybe Poole/Lymington/Southampton way. Once the poxy olympics are out of the way it can go to Portland. Know anywhere around the Poole area that do reasonable mooring rates? Apols for hijacking the OP's thread by the way, just sort of developed

Hi Paul Good to hear from you again have a look Here Martin Hi Martin, Many thanks for the heads up on t'other thread, I will see what goes on but it is likely that my new boat won't be away from Falmouth until after the WSF meeting in early June. Seems a bit daft to fetch it back East then go back to Falmouth for the meet if it already down there. Paul

Hope you guys are all planning an Alderney trip later in the year? Haven't been yet myself but would be up for it if there is a cunning plan. Paul

Go on, go on, go on. You know you want to!!! I'll volunteer to cut up your squid for you ;-)))) I'm allowed to catch pout now!!

Very well said Rob!!! Come out, come out, wherever you are.

Realise it is very short notice but I'm travelling down Sunday to do a charter trip in Weymouth on Monday and would love to find a space on a boat for the comp if possible. Paul

I think the next issue of BFM might be interesting as well!

Hoping to get out for a last bash tomorrow, might push out and try a couple of wrecks early on but tides still looking on the big side. At least the wind is supposed to be off the land. Will keep a listen on Ch6, thanks for the invite Martin Sorry to hear that your trip was also frustrating Charlie, why not slide on down to Portland early September? Planning a fortnight from 4th onwards. Will have crew for week 1 but clear for the following week. Anybody else interested in getting along just get in touch and we can maybe join forces? Paul

Hi Dave, Looking to head back home on Monday so this trip nearly over now. It hasn't been spectacular in all honesty but then the winds have made things a bit difficult to fish some of the spots I had in mind. Giving it a miss today with all this rain about but have at least had a chance for a few days R&R. Overall a few bass (all returned!) plenty of mackerel and a few wrasse. Was hoping to buddy up and get out to some of the wrecks but not much response to that idea. Next trip is planned for early September when I hope to have a couple of weeks at Portland. All the best, Paul

Just had a look at XC weather and it suggests the wind might not be too bad tomorrow. Anybody going out want to buddy boat, space on mine for one other. Will check back here later tonight to see if there is any interest. Paul

Good to meet some of you guys last night, thanks again for the local advice! Not sure quite what to make of the conservation presentation but I'm sure it is a worthwhile project? Paul

The grockle has landed! Many thanks again to Charlie for his help and advice. Managed to launch without running any kids over which was quite a feat! Hope to catch up with you guys this evening. Paul

Dave, I have a Garmin 182c that I took out of my boat when I fitted the Standard Horizon CP500. Let me know if it is any use to you. Paul
-
Charlie, Crosses will be great, far better than a bag full of noughts! Used to get loads of both when I was at skool though! Paul
-
Apologies if I've dragged down the tone of this forum with silly banter! So anybody giving clues where the meeting might be taking place? Don't forget you are talking serious grockle here!
-
Hi Dave, Would that be another case of deep pockets and short trotters by any chance? Paul ps I'm assuming that you are old enough to remember Pinky and Perky? I think most here probably are!
-
Dodgy picture added but please don't try to recognise me by the Tope as we put it back! Hopefully catch up Thursday Paul For the avoidance of confusion I joined the forum way back in 2007 but subscribed to the club proper for the first time today, still trying to get the moths back in this darn wallet!

Thanks for sorting that Paul, Regards, Paul (another PJ!)
