Thought I'd better give my account before Derek does.

Derek (Sea Sparkle) and I decided to see if there were any flounders up towards Wareham.

So I launched at Cobbs at about 10:00, under the bridge at about 10:20 and had a call from Sea Sparkle as he passed the ferry terminal to see where I was. By the time I reached our mark up by the mouth of the river Frome, Derek, Diane and Ken were already fishing. I dropped the anchor about 30 yards from them and Gerry and I got stuck in to what we hoped was going to be a very productive day.

I was sat back relaxing watching my two rods, when I noticed the well where my fuel tanks sit was full of water, I switched on the bilge pump which quickly emptied it and I pondered where all the water had come from. I hosed down inside and out after Tuesday's trip, but I remembered removing the bung to drain everything out (can you see where this is going?), that's when it hit me, I couldn't remember putting the bung back in.

There was only one thing for it, tilt the engine up, strip off (whilst trying not to frighten/excite Diane) and see if I could reach the bung (if it was still hanging on), from the boarding ladder and screw it back in. I couldn't believe my luck, it was dangling on the end of a thin bit of plastic and I could reach it, so I screwed it back in, climbed back aboard, dried off, dressed and enjoyed a nice hot cup of coffee.

After about an hour I decided the flounders weren't going to co-operate, so I moved to "Rob's Rock" and tried for some plaice. Before long Sea Sparkle and Now-Or-Never were moored nearby, they both caught plaice while Gerry and I blanked.

What did I learn from the experience?

1. Check the bung is in before launching (it's now on the check list).

2. Carry an emergency bung.

3. Luckily I carry a couple of bath towels sealed in a plastic bag.

Brian, Brian, I am not surprised nothing co-operated after seeing you in a state of undress flopping about in the mud of Poole harbour, Lucky you kept the bung, did you loose or damage any other apendage. Derek laugh.giflaugh.gifwink.gif

You will probably never do it again but just in case, the bungs in the bottom of the live bait wells are the same as the transom bung on a warrior 165 if you loose it.

Top tip from Phil at warrior.

On the brighter side Brian,

Was that the same day that I saw you ?

In the short drive from Cobb's to your house, driving past all those people on their way home from work. Your boat looked the Dog's ! There must have been a lot of envious people that day.

If ever you get bored, I can find some polish and you can come and give Small Fry a " once over " biggrin.gif

That's good to know, I thought they looked similar, but didn't know if they would fit.
