Brian Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 I wonder how long the "New Beach" will last, or the small bay east of Hamworthy Park. It looks as though any current will now bypass it and it'll silt up. Quote
duncan Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 As you suggest Brian - the implications to the whole harbor are huge from such a development. However, change isn't a bad thing in itself. Don't know about flounders but the only gilt head bream mark I know in Poole will go! Quote
Gas Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Hope they put a new slipway in. Also I think this may hit Cobbs hard ( now two bridges) Quote

However, change isn't a bad thing in itself. Don't know about flounders but the only gilt head bream mark I know in Poole will go! The change to the flow pattern could even cause Patchins Point to disappear. Edited February 9, 2011 by Brian Quote
Coddy Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 At the moment this is just a proposal as I can imagine the objections will be huge especially from the enviromental groups. What surprises me is that they think that this construction will have a limited impact on the harbour and its envrioment. I am sure if someone wanted to build just a small slipway or clubhouse that it would be rejected as quickly as the idea was proposed. Perhaps I am getting too cynical in my old age! Maverick Martin Posted February 9, 2011 Report Posted February 9, 2011 Poole is desperately short of pontoon berths and facilities, thats why it's so bloomin expensive so, I for one think it's a brilliant idea certainly better than the new twin fails bridge idea. Martin BTW I wonder if there is anyway a local angling club or association could become involved in this development? Quote

Brian Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 BTW I wonder if there is anyway a local angling club or association could become involved in this development? That would be good, a clubhouse, slipway and compound. That was a nice dream, I'd better get back to reality Quote
charlieannear Posted February 10, 2011 Author Report Posted February 10, 2011 When you look at other fishing clubs around the country (in BFM articles for example) they often have these facilities. How do they manage it? (Apart from not being located in a very expensive real estate area). They must have got involved in big projects at some point? Quote

That would be good, a clubhouse, slipway and compound. That was a nice dream, I'd better get back to reality About 17 years ago i was involved with a group made up of 3 of the local clubs, it was called Wessex Angling Consortium, it folded after a few years when we realised that its wasnt the money, nor the site, plans were drawn up with a site on baiter in mind but the apathy of anglers for the future and sadly it folded. chris holloway. great white Posted February 10, 2011 Report Posted February 10, 2011 When you look at other fishing clubs around the country (in BFM articles for example) they often have these facilities. How do they manage it? (Apart from not being located in a very expensive real estate area). They must have got involved in big projects at some point? A lot of this seems to be either in areas where land etc is cheaper or in the case of my old Club at Southsea the boat park was on a headland next to a public slipway. where the land was also bought cheaply. and the Clubhouse in a building bought when property was much much cheaper. water front land in Poole is far from cheap. Unfortunately Clubs have Membership caps, which in Parkstone YC case means that a level of Full Membership needs to be maintained, they then use various facilities in the Club Yard and Yacht Haven paying Members rates to do so. Opening the facilities to associate members would reduce the Numbers of Full Members, in the long term costing the Club money in lost income. Just my thoughts, but if there is a way of getting something out of the proposed developement for our members it would be great Charlie Quote
