great white Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Alfresco Nil Points we like most, really struggled today, starting with slow collection of bait and then the forcasted increase in the wind stopping us going out further. We tried our best in a variety of areas and lost a good fish that snapped Will off Well done those that found fish But in all it was a long tireing mackerel trip. My day was really spoilt when Sam noticed the damage to my pushpit rail, a bent rail that some W~~~~R had done and not reported to anyone. Not an easy fix either as all the fixings are well hidden and the Pushpit is so big. charlie Quote
Graham Nash Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Sorry to hear of your damage Charlie ... I know how proud you are of Alfresco (and quite rightly so too). I too came home empty handed with only a single mackerel for my troubles! Oh well, theres always next year :-) Quote
Adam F Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Bad news Charlie, sorry mate. However this doesn't sound like the damage we have heard of late, they wouldn't have been trying to steal it, so I'd suspect a collision that wasn't reported whilst on your mooring? Twice this year I've had to swerve to avoid yachts coming out of PYC who appear to have been out if control and have ended up grounded in the shallows not far from where Alfresco moors. Do you have CCTV covering the approach to the Marina? Quote
Sam Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 adam we believe it must have been a bigger craft, as the rails are well and truly bent in, but not a scratch on the hull, more likely a big steel craft, or could have been a big gin palace with a high risen bow. but someone pretty low not to report it to anyone, will be very hard to track anyone down, and for there sake i hope dad doesn't find but wasn't helped with the dissapointing bass turn out i even tried my hand at carp fishing today, and anyone who knows me means it been crap fishing for me to go coarse fishing chappers Quote
Adam F Posted August 16, 2011 Author Report Posted August 16, 2011 New bow rail then? Or can it be bent back? Quote
Sam Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 might be able to bend it out, but not sure until we try it. because its such a strong rail i would have thought its going to have to be cut and re-welded sam Quote
Mike Fox Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Not sure if this helps Charlie, but a few years ago I got sucked into straightening the pullpit on a yacht that had a mangled front end. We secured it to multiple strong points on pontoons, and rather than a tug of war team trying to straighten it, we used block and tackle to deliver a 6 to 1 advantage AND the tug of war team, spreading loads on the pullpit as needed. It did all go back together nicely. Not sure if this might work for you, as it sounds a bit more substantial on Alfresco, but I offer the suggestion for what its worth. Mike Quote
pirky Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Sorry to hear about the rail Charlie /Sam ...... as bad as some-one stealing from you ... and you are left sorting out the damage... Hope it bends back ... but knowing you if it is not near perfik it will be replaced. Dltbgyd Charlie Dave Quote
Brian Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 No Bass on Boblin but did see the rarely sighted "Small Fry". Colin Would that be the "Lesser Spotted Small Fry"? Quote

djredrupp Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Charlie, Would it be worth a look around the yard to see if anyone has a corresponding dent on their bow? Dan Quote
Stuie Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 So sorry to hear of your unexplained damage Charlie. Hope you are able to have it repaired successfully. Will insurance cover it? Stuart PS - I hope we didn't cramp your style at Old Harry during the bass comp - I'm still learning. Quote
great white Posted August 16, 2011 Report Posted August 16, 2011 Thanks for the good wishes guys, I have a specialist looking at the boat on Thursday to see what has to be done No problem Stuie it was the weather that was cramping our plans before Sam noticed the damage and the whole mood on the boat changed, we too were on a learning curve in there.
