djredrupp Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 (edited) Looking at the forecast to join hopefully.... What do you think of the tides for fishing the Needles? Good time-wise to have flow throughout the day, but will the water speed be too great? or need massive leads? Advice please! Hope you all had a good xmas! Graham Nash Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 I often find weed to be a problem at the Needles (dunno what others find) ... bigger tides will have that weed moving even quicker. Quote
Crossy Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Am umming and arring about making the trip down tomorrow for an AM session. Given the possible residual swell and wind later I might stay Poole side rather than trudging over towards the Needles but I'll see if and when I get there. Tides look massive so don't really want to be using 2lb leads to hall out red weed all morning. Will keep a watch on 6. Andrew Quote
niggle Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 I don't know if the needles will be approachable but if it is between 9 and2pm there is only 0.5m rise and fall in tide in the Freshwater area, before and after those times it's silly Quote

I was planning to stay on the Poole side of the bay but thought I might head over there if the sea is calm (ish). Does the Poole side typically produce anything this time of the year, I see most people tend to make a beeline for the Car park? Last time I tried on the Poole side I didn't even get a touch . niggle Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 Andrew there are some good marks Poole way,I don't have them but I do know some big cod have shown over there.Best way is to look for other boats I believe the " slates" or the spoils are good with the later shown on you're plotter Tight lines Nige Quote
Crossy Posted December 26, 2011 Report Posted December 26, 2011 Hi Nige, Yeah, was planning to fish the slates tomorrow, I think I will stick to plan. Thanks for the info, Andrew Quote
