Graham Nash Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 I am currently doing the electrics on my boat and am at the stage of considering the CD Radio .... On Little Sal I gave the nice man at the shop one of my arms and he gave me a "FUSION" Radio. But on this one I have a fully closed in cabin so probably dont NEED such quality so am wondering if I can keep my remaining arm and shoot down to Halfords and pick up a good old fashioned car radio. My concern is not so much the weatherproofing quality, more the build quality. Does anyone else use a car radio in their planing hull boat and if so does it cope with the beatings that a 20 knot blast through the waves gives it? Thanks Graham. Also I am looking for a windscreen wiper set up .... does anyone have one they want to sell? Quote
Mike Fox Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Think I'd be tempted to go to a breaker's yard and get a Quote
great white Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Graham All of my planning boats had Car radio's in them and they seemed fine, after all the boats only get moderate seas before needing to be slowed to suit the weather. It is the fitted CD players that seem to pack up quickly due to the damp. Alfresco's only survived about 18months. I think just a radio with a connection to an ipod or smart phone is better than a CD/radio Charlie Quote

Jamie W Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 I think just a radio with a connection to an ipod or smart phone is better than a CD/radio Charlie Couldnt agree more here.... My latest boat has a cd/radio.. Its a good Sony unit..BUT it has no aux port... Cd is useless to me, i have loads, but never use them... All i want is aux, so the iphone with my mp3's can plug in :-( Jack fm is a decent replacment though!!! I have got a fm transmiter for the iphone. Better then nothing i guess.. Quote

Rob Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Fill you boots from here: http://www.marine-audio.com/ Subs, ipod enclosures etc. I think there is a audio module for Lowrance kit that will control an iPod. Rob Quote
Jim Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Graham, I bought some speakers for my last phone, a Sony Ericsson. They worked well using the phone as a radio or as an MP3 if no signal. My new phone has 48 Gig, so I can load it with allsorts and it's plenty loud enough. I have fitted a multi socket cigarette lighter point, so charging is not a problem. Jim Quote

islander99 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Hi If you can get an older radio with a cassette player from a scrapyard or car boot. Maplins sell a dummy casset with a wire coming from it to connect to iPod or similar . I bought one last week , Quote
