for the twitchers amongst you, there has been a rose coloured starling in my mums back garden in hordle for the few days. I'm not really interested myself, but I know they had more than 100 people pretty much sat outside outside her drive on a daily basis!

I was at St. Michael's Mount in Cornwall a few years ago and saw a family of Starlings with a bright red stripe on the front of their heads.

I had never seen anything like it before. I asked a few questions when I came back and was told it was pollen. They feed from a certain type of flower for a very short period each year, and the pollen dyes their feathers.

 

Anyone know if that's correct ? ? ?

 

It was quite spectacular.
