Gnasher
Basically, when i fire up my outboard, I leave it running, and then after a couple of minutes I occasionally get an alarm that comes from my throttle lever control. Does anyone have any idea what this alarm may be?
Brian
What engine?
Rob
Over heating possibly. Have you got muffs on or a hose attached to an adapter from the engine? My Yam has a flush adapter on the side of the cowling, but you must not run the engine when using it, or it will overheat. HTH, Rob
Gnasher
It's a Johnson 60hp VRO. I run it up with muffs attached and it's pumping Plenty of water. I'm just confused as to what it may be.
Gnasher
I've had a look on line and it could becan oil problem as it's an internitant alarm instead of a continous buzzer.
Coddy
Dan Might be worth a good search on oil pump problems as I recall some people did disconnect the auto oil pump due to problems and then self mixed the oil in the fuel. If I come accross anything I will make a post. I would suggest a good service and check over by a good marine engineer before going out as you don't want to be caught out in the run at Christchurch or Keyhaven with the tide going out! diverdave
Throw the VRO away ! and run on 50:1 premix. I've got a 50HP ex VRO and used to get the same intermittent alarm. Eventually the top piston seized and I had to rebuild the powerhead. There is too much to go wrong with that OMC VRO system. The only way to be sure the engine is getting oil is to put it in yourself. Hope this helps and saves you money. Dave
Brian
My son-in-law has got an Evinrude 50hp VRO. I removed the VRO pump and replaced it with an ordinary pump. the crankcase already had the mounting holes. He now runs it on 50:1 premix and it runs better than it ever did before. But there are 2 other options :- 1) Run on 50:1 premix and fill the oil tank with 50:1 premix and disconnect the VRO wiring to kill the alarm. 2) Disconnect and blank off the oil feed at the pump, disconnect the VRO wiring and run on 50:1 premix. Gnasher
I've been having a look and will be disconnecting the vro and using premix 50-1. I've found a clip on YouTube explaining how it's done. Seems basic enough. Fingers crossed.
Brian
I removed the VRO pump completely. Blanked off the crankcase connection that went to the VRO pump.. Removed the crankcase blank and Fitted one of these Fuel Pump. as the crankcase had the mounting points. The pump cost about Edited April 12, 2012 by Brian
