Crossy
After a bit of planning and re-planning we decided to head out for the wrecks first thing. Plan of attack to to spend the bulk of the day in and around some of the wrecks on the rips stopping off at a couple of inshore wrecks on the way out and the way back. First Wreck, First drop and: Second drift and: After bringing in a few Pollock each we decided to motor out to the mid channel wrecks. We were not out as far as the separation lanes but I was surprised at the amount of large tankers passing us in both directions in and around the rips. We kept a good look out in the absence of Radar and AIS. Various wrecks tried in and around this area and a few more Pollock running into double figures, a small Ling and a Gurnard (didn't know they would take a shad) were taken. Mark lost something huge which he couldn't stop stripping line until eventually the braid ended up at the other side of the reel from the level-wind and ....ping. My money was on a good size Cod. We were tight for time as I needed to get my boat lifted out for a cursory look underneath at 6 as I couldn't get the damn thing above 14 knots for love nor money and so rather than try a couple of others we headed back to the same wreck we tried on the way out. 2nd drift and: A Pollock which looked much bigger then it does in the picture.... I didn't have my scales with me and I am hopeless at guessing weights but estimates from the crew ranged from 10lb to 14lb. My guess is around the 10-12lb mark. Happy with that.......... A hugely enjoyable day afloat but a frustrating day from the boat perspective. Bum was clean as a whistle. Next, engine and failing that, weight distribution . great white
Well done Andrew Did you try the brittle stars like your original plan? or just stick to the wrecks. Charlie
Crossy
Hi Charlie, I didn't try the brittle stars, don't know where they are. We tried drifting some of the big contours round the rips area and that's where Matt lost a couple of really good sized fish. Stayed mainly to the wrecks though. Maverick Martin
Well done sounds like you had a really good day. Those large fish could have been Tope as we have caught a fair few around that area Martin

Mike Best bet would be on a small tide on the way to or from your holiday trips or have a nice sail out to the rips, then go fishing for a few hours, then a nice sail home. A long day but covers both of your boats capabilities. If its hard hitting the wrecks on the drift, there are some steep banks out there that also hold such fish.
