Hi.

I need an Anchor for Tiddler.

I would like a Bruce type.

I remember someone having an anchor selection chart ?

I'm thinking roughly 2kilo ish ? ? ?

Anyone have one for sale ?

Or some chain about 5metres long ? or both ???

Hi Jim

If you can locate one I would go for a Delta anchor, I have a 4Kg model on my Shetland (17ft) and it holds a treat.

I know they can be a bit more costly but they do work every time and easy to arrange a tripping set-up.

The RNLI use them on their Atlantics and D class inflatables so they must be good!

Bruce copies are ok but I have found they don't always hold first time, probably because they are copies, if I recall the original Bruce company has stopped making them or gone out of business.

2Kg might be a tad light.

Seriously Jim - I have 2 anchors - one 5kg bruce - for normal use!

I don't have the miles of chain, but enough to be more than 5KG (prob 7kg)and keep the anchor at the buoy on retrieval! (so weight rather than length!)

I also keep a folding 5KG bruce onboard for emergencies. I guess the scenario is, you cut your rode as anchor stuck - so head in, engine issue and you need your anchor to stop you drifting in to rocks \ traffic - where is you anchor?

Also, a second anchor can be deployed to stop sway when at anchor in shallows, i.e. the harbour.

Be carefull if you go for a Plough anchor as they can be finger traps! sad.gifsad.gif

Also steer clear of Danforth's, good on mud but not a lot else.

You could always look at the Fishermans anchor as the cross piece normally is moveable so it will lie flat, you will need to weld a fixing point at the bottom of the shank to attach the chain and trip it with a cable tie at the top as normal.
