Coddy Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Hi all I have only just been given the following information: Have YOUR say on two bridge road system Poole council have arranged for members of the public to attend three drop in sessions on Friday 7th September to give their views on Poole's two bridge system. The informal drop-in sessions at the Civic Centre, Poole will give people the opportunity to find out more about the road system around Poole Bridge and the Twin Sails Bridge and speak to the council's appointed independent expert witness Phil Jones and Andy Ward. Mr Jones, who has extensive expertise in traffic analysis and transport planning, has been appointed to review the road system around Poole Bridge and Twin Sails Bridge and inform a select committee that will meet towards the end of September. The findings from this review will also feed into a separate review of the council's Central Area Planning Guidance which is currently taking place. The Civic Centre drop-in sessions on 7th September will take place at: 10.30am to 12pm 2pm to 3.30pm 5pm to 6.30pm These sessions are designed to collect information and views from members of the public. They will not be chaired or discussions. Documents and information relating to the review will also be available to view after the event from Monday 10th September in the Planning reception of the Civic Centre during normal opening hours. Maverick Martin Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Wrong bridge wrong location but then BOP were told this by loads of locals when it was first dreamt of but now I guess we have to make the most of what has been forced upon us Quote
Brian Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Wrong bridge wrong location but then BOP were told this by loads of locals when it was first dreamt of. I was talking to an ex mayor of Poole who agrees. He'a still got all the plans for a fixed span bridge that would have gone across to the Holes Bay Road, he also had funds sorted. Apparently others on the council wanted something different. Edited September 4, 2012 by Brian Quote

I would go for a French style bridge over Holes Bay Would exclude some of the bigger yachts from Cobbs Quay but it seems they are leaving anyway. Tony Quote
great white Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Unless they have penelty clauses in the design and build contract, that would allow for a redesign and fund the building of a fixed bridge, what is the point of this. Talk about closing the stable door after the horse has gone. what idiot thought that another lifting bridge was a good idea, hard to operate, costly to maintain, potential to fail with massive effect on traffic on the roads and the water. Maverick Martin Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Apparently others on the council wanted something different. More like developers wanted something different and waved a big "we won't develop unless we get what we want" stick at the short sighted council, muppets no land owner would of sat on waste land forever. Matt Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 To me looks like lots of pretty diagrams of it lifting sold it with no thought to practicalities ! Quote
Mike Fox Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Think the old bridge should be decommissioned and left raised as soon as possible....naturally to save the costs of routine maintenance. Mike Quote
Graham Nash Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Think the old bridge should be decommissioned and left raised as soon as possible....naturally to save the costs of routine maintenance. Mike then there is no benefit to road users but a few boaters get easier access. I cant see them getting away with that! I must be in the minority (of boat users) as I live in the town centre. Although I would have much preferred to see a bridge spanning the whole of holes bay I see a HUGE improvement in my journey home. No more sitting at the Asda roundabout waiting to get home because the bridge is up, no more having to drive all the way round holes bay to get to the other side of the bridge when it goes up just as you approach it on a bank holiday weekend. I think it's a lovely sight when it raises, especially at night. There may be problems with it for a few rich boat people, but most of their boats sit on their pontoons for 95% of the time anyway. gjb Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 For what it's worth my view there was no thought to may be lost jobs in the holes bay boat parks and others who get there work as part of this boating trade yes something was needed but at what cost but you pay your tax and they do what they want Quote
Maverick Martin Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Although I would have much preferred to see a bridge spanning the whole of holes bay And for me that's the problem. I could see the need for another bridge, the town was crying out for one but did it have to be another low lying opening bridge with all that entails. We (the town) are now saddled with the ongoing maintenance costs for not one but two unsuitable bridges. On the plus side as you say it is pretty but that doesn't make all its woes ok Ah well we are where we are and must put up with it but the council will not get a pat on the back from me. Martin Quote
