Hi All, Just collected my nice new sbs trailer today an would like some recommendations of what ratchet straps would be best to strap the boat to the trailer with. I have some lovely 5 tonne ones I use for the digger but slight overkill I think lol. Getting ready to get out of dean and redyhoffs asap. Went down to look at the boat about a week ago and was covered in the usual dust and the usual rust spots. Looks good on a new boat. At least at home I can keep it cleaner.  Cheers Guys

Use the 5 tonne ones. Better to be on the big side than too small!

I always used to use the ones we used on the lorries at work, just be careful not to over ratchet them....t

Indeed, go big and leave slightly loose - esp if you have a swinging cradle at the back of the trailer as that gives the trailer flex and you don't want the boat resisting that flex..............or you might need a new one, again!!!!!!

Thanks guys is it best to strap to each stern cleat or just the 1 strap from one side to the other threaded through the cleats  .

I personally would not tie down the boat on the cleats, The size of fixings are not that great for holding a boat onto the trailer.

Far better to go over the complete boat and hold it down onto the rollers, you always have the winch hooked on the front to stop it slidding off but the back end could jump around on a rough road.

As others have said don't go too mad in tightening the stap up.

On my old Warrior I made up some stap sleeves to stop the strap leaving marks where it pulled down over the gunnels.

As Coddy says, use some rubbing sleeves. depending on the webbing size, the ones sold by Machine Mart may do, or make some up out of rubber door mat strips. I used to tow my old Alaska 500 from Leicester to Weston-super-Mare/Burnaham on Sea and found they saved a lot of chaffing.

I strap down Neo over the cover with no problem, but I guess it depends where the cover is in relation to where the strap crosses.

I also have a strap at the front which gives me a bit more reassurance that she wont come off the trailer until I want her to :)

Not sure how / if you would want to do this with a Warrior.

I think I will leave the cover on and strap over it and good point Paul to strap the front down too. Us warrior owners just have to get used to the niggles like the puddle on the cover Matt as you know and also the bilge pump really could do with being sat lower so it pumps out all the water out of the petrol tank bay. I did mention this too Warrior while my boat was being built but they said it couldn't be done unfortunately.

I use a big plank when I trail the boat.

But enough about Rob!

It was a tip I was given on a course- a plank (decking plank) laid across the back of the boat, and a ratchet strap at each end to the trailer.

Brings any 'bounce' forces straight down onto the hull, and stops any 'squeeze' of the hull sides.
