Peter Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 I have had a problem with the wipers on Freeboys since purchase aft first raising Jeauneau apparently said it wa spacers and sent back replacement motors with exactly the same spacers, u surprisingly they failed again almost instantaneously. A fter putting up with no wipers for last season I got in touch with robin at Cambrian boats again last NOvember and he assured me he would take it up with Jeauneau again after humour outs chases I go the helpful email last week. " In have no idea how to fix this bring the boat up to Swansea and I will have a go" To do that again would take up 2 days of my time and best part of a couple of tanks of diesel in the land rover!!!!!! Problem seems to be that apart from motors not having the guts for th job windscreen is curved and slants forward tending to throw the arms off when they do move. Has anyone any ideas to save me anothe fruitless trip to Swansea. If Tom B as a Jeaunneau dealer is looking in any thoughts I would be interested Thanks Peter Quote
gjb Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Hi Peter I had to bite the bullet and buy whole new one for my Quicksilver 640 i was told they was not man enough for the job but you maybe lucky with yours good luck graham Quote
Adam F Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Can you explain the problem in a bit more detail? However I'd imagine curved screens are always going to be tricky. What motors are fitted? I've got Vetus Pantographs and they have been faultless in 5 years. If you replace I'd recommend these. Quote

Thanks Adam, I think the problem is basically the motors fitted which I think are Spanish are just not up to the job and burn out very quickly I think because of the shape of the screen making movement difficult . Although this is contradicted by the fact that they tend to flop, off the screen very easily if hit by the slightest bit of water coming over the top. Space to fit is tight so I will be limited by replacement options. I wondered if it is possible to get ones with a longer shaft to offset the effect of the inclined screen. Peter Quote
Adam F Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 It's hard to see without seeing them. However on both Alfresco and Jv we had tight space to mount them between the roof and window but they went in ok, and they are commercial spec so designed to work continuously in poor weather. http://www.vetus-shop.com/vetus-wiper-motor-12v-package-25mm-spindle-p-2463.html Peter 1 Quote
niggle Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 On my last boat with plastic curved glass I found the wiper very poor and scratched the screen after a period of time. I stopped using the wiper at all after I found that if I polished the screen with a quality car polish water just run straight off. Nige Quote
