Adam F
Do any of you have a novel way of carrying your pirks? I find them so awekward - heavy and sharp, at the same time. If i lob them in the lead bucket someone risks getting hooked, but they are too big and bulky for a rig wallet?
niggle
I don't have to worry as they aren't on the boat long.............lost n gone:-)) I have a small bucket about 12 inch high and 6 inch dia and they sit nicely on the top ridge Adam F

plaicemat
Like Nigel, I keep a small bucket with soft lures in the bottom and pirks held on the top rim. Terry. Adam F
Rob
Keep the hooks separately, using assist hooks this is easy!!! R
Adam F
Thats a nice idea Rob - they blunt and rust on the pirk, and only take a few moment to pop on the split ring. May well do this.
Rob
Made up 20 last week, with Sakuma Stainless hooks!!!! ;o)

great white
How sad you are Rob [i made mine from Octopus hooks and Faultless hooks with various colors of shrink tube ] but at least I did not take pictures of them Adam I have an old first aid pouch, that holds plenty of mine, its much bigger and tougher than a rig wallet and is heavy when full. But it keeps the sharps safe.

Ben
I don't have to worry about transportation to much as my pirk box is not full for that long ..!!!! Lol ( u gotta be in it to win it ) !!!!!
Adam F
I found a couple of these in the workshop, they fit 3 pirks nicely. Incidentally they are from Flambeau and are called Tuff Tainer. Will be interesting to see how they perform as they are impregnated with something that prevents rust, ideal for us anglers. Adam F
What are assist hooks and why/how do they work?
great white
http://www.planetseafishing.com/tutorials/read/diy-assist-hooks/ have a look there Adam it also tells you how to make them, but the hooks alone cost more than what Trev bought his for Adam F
Newboy
They are hook on string, fitted to pirlk with an O ring, it flaps about the pirk. They are less likely to hook any wrecks or bottom. Do try a Gummi Mak too, they work very well on pirks or speed jig.
Adam F
Are they really that much better than a conventional treble? Interesting concept, maybe ill give it a go?
Adam F
Gummi mak? Just googled that... It's a killer rig no? Strange how these 'modern' methods are just a variation on a theme, often an old method!
great white
I bought the hooks for these and some special ones for Gummy macks from UK hooks
Wedger
allegedly.......assist hooks (single or twins) mounted on the top loop of your pirk / speed jig will increase your hook up rate and reduce your snag rate. If the doubles are tied properly they are adjustable so you have one near the top and one lower down. I've used them for a few years and apart from the above (can't really quantify such) I find them easier to handle and I have confidence in them, which for many anglers is probably the most important aspect. There were a few photo's on the old web site of my method of building / rigging assist hooks. I will try to seek them out and upload again. As for transport. It is much easier as the pirk / jig and hooks are married with a clip swivel only when you attach to your main line. I have a box full of jigs and several trays of assist hooks tied and ready to go in the same box. A speed jig and assist hooks on mack feathers has accounted for some cracking bonus fish for me.
