Mike Fox Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 Found this, which might impact members: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-26567573 and http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/NEWS/11061505.Commuters_set_for_disruption_when_Twin_Sails_closes_for_week_for_annual_maintenance/ Boat traffic not impacted - just access to the area it seems Mike Quote
Maverick Martin Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 Ah here we go with annual "planned" maintenance, now not just on one old bridge but now the twin fails bridge as well. Plus approximately every 5 - 7 years there will be major upkeep expenses paid for by us the rate payers. If only the voices of some of us locals were listened to. A fixed bridge in a suitable location would have not needed anything other than very minor repairs for the first 20 years with minimal on going costs ie no lift operator no hydraulics or mechanical bits to break. The old bridge could have been either demolished or just lifted and left up. But there you go the council and town planners know best Hindsight will be wonderful when it dawns on those that made the decisions.........but then again their never wrong.................are they? Coddy Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Martin I think there is a need for someone with your common sence to be on the council! I am sure you would get plenty of support Just think of the jollys you could get!! Dave Quote
Kingfisher 126 Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 You are right Martin they never make a mistake now what was that called "IMAX" I think!!!!!!! One thing you have to say is the second bridge has made road traffic around Poole better for sure. That week back to one bridge will highlight that! Maverick Martin 1 Quote
Mike Fox Posted March 16, 2014 Author Report Posted March 16, 2014 I'm still amazed a simple short tunnel couldn't have been installed.... I feel the cost would have been lower, and with no disruption, lift times, annual maintenance, etc Mike Quote
Rob Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Why couldn't they close both a people just drive around the holes bay? Who would go to Ham worthy by choice anyway!!!!????!!!??? Quote
Maverick Martin Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Dave no thanks I did look into that once but decided against it Chris a different town which I guess has the same representation issues Mike a tunnel wouldn't be "Iconic" Kingfisher 126 1 Quote
gjb Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 We have the same team in Salisbury they must all do the same test how to ruin your home town in 5 easy steps and how to make you pay at least twice as much Graham Quote
Brian Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 I think there's a secret competition between councils, to see which one can come up with the biggest waste of money. Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk Quote
Stuie Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Dave no thanks I did look into that once but decided against it I agree with Coddy, Martin - remember that you're older and wiser now, since you made your previous decision. Quote
Maverick Martin Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Stuie the reward for being a councillor (other than an ego boost) is pitiful and that's why my friend we end up with muppets. As the old saying goes pay peanuts etc etc Quote
Rob Posted March 16, 2014 Report Posted March 16, 2014 Not sure "pay peanuts get tossers" is a saying, maybe that is a new one! Martin.C 1 Quote

Stuie Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Yet again - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-30223779 Fit for purpose? It's only our money after all. Quote
Mike Fox Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 I still think a short tunnel would have given total access to all.... sighhhhhhh Mike Quote
Maverick Martin Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Or a large fixed bridge both of which would have meant minimal ongoing maintenance costs unlike bridges with moving parts. I believe the council were warned by many but as normal with upstarts they didn't listen but opted for short term gain long term etc etc. Do public servants ever learn.............don't answer that Quote
