Matt Posted April 6, 2014 Report Posted April 6, 2014 Congrats on the boat! Rather than worry about an aux engine make sure you have a decent vhf radio (being able to yell for help is best, if you have a.spare engine but run out of fuel... we are Weymouth based but if you want a few trips we will.be looking for crew soon Retrowagon 1 Quote
Retrowagon Posted April 7, 2014 Author Report Posted April 7, 2014 Thanks for the offer on the trips I'll keep my eyes open and ears to the ground. As for VHF radio, it's on the list but first few journeys will be harbour based to start with till the bravery kicks in Quote
Rob Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 Just be aware, the harbour can be a dangerous place. Big waves, tidal races and worst of all plonkers in other craft! Retrowagon 1 Quote
Retrowagon Posted April 7, 2014 Author Report Posted April 7, 2014 Oh no now not only being so big and looking like Gulliver in the boat Rob,now I have a label "a plonker in a boat"...... And to top it all it bright yellow ....ARRRRRGGGGGHHHH :) lol Quote
Jim Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 Speak to Arran at Absolute Aqua.co.uk Powerboat level 2 is a basic boating course for not much money. I put my 13 year old Grandson and my wife on it last year. They are now confident and competent of taking charge of my boat. If you have no experience, get out with other boaters as crew to find your sea legs. Just chip in towards their expenses for the day. There's some very experienced members willing to share their knowledge. Jim Quote
Maverick Martin Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 and worst of all plonkers in other craft! Rob I thought that was called entertainment Kingfisher 126 1 Quote

Hooky Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Still loads of those Dandys about, perfect for harbour, seen a few a fair way out in the bay in the summer months. A old fella that lives along Holes Bay road has owned his from new 1972? Launches from'slipway by RNLI with a Clio . Fantastic fisherman, always catches, no sounder , center pin reel, never needed or wanted a bigger or 'better' craft. Nothing beats the knowledge of these old fellas Stuie 1 Quote
