just add water
Hi everyone as Dad said on my birthday post i have now got a new go pro hero 3 + and i was hoping for a bit of advice from people who also have one. at the moment i have had to get a new laptop to run the editing software needed for it, but after loading some test videos onto pro studio the videos came out quite jumpy and slowed down, i have played round with the different setting on it and it doesnt seem to be changing. can anyone help by letting me know what setting such as resolution , fps and capture settings you use or if anyone has have the same problem due to the camera being faulty many thank Dan

Rob
If it is in HD mode, you need a beast of a laptop to process and run that video. My 2 yr old work laptop (nothing special graphic card wise) can't pal smooth HD video. Set everything to capture on low res, low gps etc and see if that works. djredrupp
I don't use any higher res than 720p - i cant see the difference to 1080p, and it uses a bit less memory as well! When you are importing, you'll want to match the frame rate to what is was recorded in. unless you want to do slow-mo, there is no need to use any higher frame rate than 30fps - any more and it is just using memory and processing power! That said... slo-mo is pretty damn cool..... To preserve frame rate, always import in the frame rate it was recorded in - otherwise it chops bits out, and then you end up with the jumpy footage when you slow the footage down. niggle
Hi dan, It's the card your using in the camera that's making the footage it's recording jumpy, basically the card isn't writing the data fast enough. You need a MicroSD card that is class 10 and above 32gb to be able to hold enough data. Here's a list of the MicroSD cards that gopro recommend in that model; SanDisk Extreme 32GB microSDHC (SDSDQXL-032G) •SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC (SDSDQXL-064G) •Lexar 32GB SDHC 600x (LSDMI32GBSBNA600R) •Lexar 64GB SDXC 600x (LSDMI64GBSBNA600R) •Delkin 32GB SDHC (DDMICROSDPRO2-32GB) •Delkin 64GB SDXC (DDMICROSDPRO264GB) Hope this helps Nigel

just add water
hi guy thanks for the help and had a play with every thing last night but still having problems nigel im using a sandisk extreme plus 32gb which is the one that came with the camera so there shouldnt be any problem with that, can you please ask lee what setup he uses for viewing and editing because now i am not sure if the new laptop i got is just not man enough for the job but considering it has a quad core processor 4gb ram 750gb memory and upgraded graffics card i would have thought it would be. dan i tryed changing the fps when importing and it improved but my camera does not have the option to set on 720p at 30 fps only 60 but i did run out of time last night before i tryed importing at 60fps at 720p Dan
niggle
Lee uses the latest Apple Mac Pro laptop Dan which he bought for cad and design plus great video and photo work But I will ask about possible software you could try on yours
Adam F
It won't be the laptop. I can even use my ipad to edit basic video. What software are you using? I use iMovie on the ipad, but it's very basic and limiting. On the PC I use Movie Maker, which is simple to use but you can't do the really fancy stuff Lee does, but it's good enough for me, the only downside is when rendering the video at the end, is prone to crashing if it's more than a few mins of film... You can get it to work ok though. My first time I had to gaff around a fair bit. As Dan and rob says, unless you got a semi pro set up, forget 1080, and just stick with 720. Newboy
My driver has a go pro (can't remeber which one, but it's about £300-£350), he mentioned it doesn't work probably with sandisk, he's got a lexar and it works fine now. I'll ask him when he next come in to work.

djredrupp
Are you finalising the edit before you play it? A lot of software has "previews" to play the footage. Make sure it is finalised, then watch the final edit through something like VLC player. For using go pro studio (assume you mean Cineform studio?), check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEBe6hVXXHA
Mikey B
Hi Dan, Check out the link below. http://www.videomaker.com You should find the answer you are looking for on the forum. Also a few articles on the Go Pro. With regards to the editing software try Power Director Suite, all the facilities you are ever likely to need including all the raw file conversions etc. You need to convert the raw files to MP4,AVI or WMV. the software will give you all the options including the ability to upload your video movies to YouTube. Coddy
Was watching the Gadget show on ch5 and they were reviewing editing software. If you have IPlayer maybe worth looking back. Dave

Adam F
Now you need to go on eBay and buy a load of different mounts so you can play with boom shots, head cams, rod cam etc... It's loads of fun!

Rob
Get a cheap landing net pole, the aluminium ones are sturdy but a carbon one will be lighter (but knock it and it could snap at any moment!).
Adam F
Nearly Rob. Get a fibreglass one, cheap and light. Less than £20.
