Retrowagon
I have a 1969 Mercury 4 cylinder 50hp Thunderbolt ignition outboard. Prop turns, pull start, needs lots sorting out What's it worth ? Is it worth trying to sort out ? Get rid of it for parts ? Let the laughter begin Being 4 cylinder does that make it four stroke too ??
Brian
4 Cylinder does not make it 4 Stroke. 1969 Mercury 4 cylinder 50hp, it'll be 2 stroke. The first Mercury 50hp 4 stroke was 1994.

Jim
Blue band around the engine ? I had one of those. It used to start and run fine for a while then it would stop and not start again. Next day it would start and run fine again ( for a while ) My Brother had a 90 horse blue band merc. - - - - - did exactly the flipping same. If you're not some sort of expert with a garage full of bits, my view is sell it for bits. Jim Steve S and Retrowagon
