lofty Posted May 16, 2015 Report Posted May 16, 2015 Today was the 6th Swanage Kayak competition, and once again club members went the extra mile to support this event. It is a fundraiser for Swanage Rnli and in the past the organisers were quoted £1000 for a support RIB to attend the meeting, which would have to have been taken from funds raised for the RNLI By our club boats volunteering in the past and today , they are directly raising those funds by giving their time and expense in supporting the kayakers participating. So on behalf of the 108 kayakers, and all the team behind the scenes, and the service users of the RNLI, a huge thank you to Chris, Neal, Martin, Stuie and Jim, and thanks to everyone who gets behind the clubs charity Heroes on the Water. Tight lines chaps Maverick Martin, Jim, niggle and 5 others 8 Quote

Jim Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 Right :I was cream crackered last night & busy all day today. Firstly: There are some true Gentlemen about and our club is blessed with a large helping of them. Chris and Myself passed through the 07:30 lift and headed out towards the main harbour. At the Condor ferry we hooked a left ( turned to Port ) and Chris had his eye on a little rubber dinghy. He told me to shout across and ask if he was OK. It turned out that he wasn’t OK and had engine problems. We towed him in safely and set off for the Harbour entrance. The kettle started whistling. What a lovely sound - - a whistling kettle. We arrived at the “ secret spot “ of Ballard and dropped anchor. Chris was straight into a nice bream from the off. Then I had some as well. Neal & Stuie stopped by on their way to Swanage for Safety duties. We were joined by Dave ( Reel Magic ) ( Dave I have a few photos for you ) and numerous charters. One of which positioned himself not far behind us and had a very noisy anchor. That finished the fishing. Not to worry it was time for our duties as safety boat too so we upped anchor and went round to Swanage. rich185, Maverick Martin, Stuie and 4 others 7 Quote
Jim Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 We nipped over for a quick chat with Neal & Stuie and then over to the launch area to make ourselves known.Soon enough it was 10:00 and the whole bay seemed to be awash with kayaks. The guys in control on the mic asked us to police the boundary to keep people inside for safety reasons. Chris set a Large Red Line on his plotter and we could tell who was over and who was not.It can be difficult sometimes for individuals to judge if they’re in or not but we could not only see but we could tell them how far over they were. ( anyone we nagged at .. . sorry . . . just trying to keep you all safe ) We had plenty of sausage, bacon & egg baps too. We even took some over for Neal & Stuie. We spent most of the day slowly patrolling around and assisting numerous stuck anchors.I think we lost 2 and got 4 back ( sorry Lofty ) yours was stuck tighter than a boss’s wallet ! I’ve put a load of photos on a CD. I’ll get them to you Lofty. ( please PM me your address ) I’ve lost it. Can the organisers please stress to all kayakers that they must sign back in after the comp. We were hanging around for ages while a few were being located. We did not dare just go in case they were still out on the water and in need of help.Once we were “ stood down “ we headed back for a few bream but no good. Chris had one on but it got off. He then had another bite and then nothing. But ! I had a fantastic day afloat on a great boat with a really competent skipper.Chris - - - I take my hat off to you and once again, Thanks. Kingfisher 126 Posted May 17, 2015 Report Posted May 17, 2015 Great report you put together Jim good effort and thanks for offering to help out and good company as you have been ill for a while. Good guys on the kayaks all moved back when asked no problem. They carry some serious kit on their kayaks and the set up is really slick to watch. A few were exhausted with the paddle back against the tide. A good day out. (most are if you can get out on the water) Jim, Stuie, niggle and 1 other 4 Quote
lofty Posted May 17, 2015 Author Report Posted May 17, 2015 And now for the big embarrassing confession. The missing kayaker was me. They had 109 entry forms, and 108 signed in. I printed my entry form off at home and it printed over two sheets. Mine was the only two page entry form. Hence 109 sheets and 108 signatures. Apologies for the delays. It's all a learning process and a lesson learnt is not to trust me with a printer. Cheers chaps Lofty 67 Darbys Lane Oakdale Bh153es Jim, Maverick Martin, niggle and 5 others 8 Quote
