Gummage visits friends on Shetland

So Swindon Paddington , Paddington Edinburgh,meet up with lifelong friend , now captain Andy Powis and offto A.Bardeen and the overnight ferry to Lerwick to meet his twin Sons  Jamie and Callum. 

we have a bit of rough shooting and fishing in mind.. 

Todaywith the windin the north was an ideal opportunity to get after Cod and Haddock.

 

Fished deep water on the Bressay side of the channel south of Lerwick

No tackle. Bags……just weights 12 oz and blingy feathers

 

The boys were apprentices of the Molotov boat yard. They decided they wanted to take up fishing so they found some scrap aluminium and built a boat..like you do!

Got to  the lighthouse on Bressay and chucked in on the drift.

sea state was very good but wind and tide combined to make it a bit swift.

Also tide was Ebbing which was not deemed  favourite….nevertheless……

……Nevertheless. Before very long at all, it was pb time for the boat  and Jamie ….. Then Gummage was in. Not quite such an event but hey….

We were finally well into a steady stream of Mackerel from 3m to the bottom say 50 m.

I tried to drop beneath them and got a codling.

 

40 odd mackerel were caught…..not bad size…..water was surprisingly warm..

Now the good bit..fearing we might be low on fuel we set off back……

yep…..we were right……we had totieoff for awhile in a beautiful sandstone rock pool

eventually we were rescued by the boy’s sister’s  best friend’s husband.

Nobodyseemed bothered…..such is island life

That’s one hell of a long trip , I get very frustrated at the one hour journey from home to Poole so 💪💪💪👍👍👍
