Tope trip

Hi all,

Leo and I have a free pass for Saturday 6th August. I would dearly love for Leo to feel the power of a tope. But where we are it's an hour 20 min steam and the 4 times we have tried we have blanked on the tope.

So, I guess what I am asking is this,... is anybody going tope hunting on the 6th and do you have space for Leo and I to join you??

If not, can I get some serious info, coordinates and best time of tide etc...?

I normally go to the hockey stick area but never with luck on my side.

Regards

Neil

Well, 4 times you have steamed 1hr 20!! So..........

Either you want tope or not.

R

I do, but with the price of diesel atm I'd rather go with somebody that lives closer and then chip in on the fuel bill.
Seeing as this weekend is the ray comp, we may have to do that instead! (Didn't realise when I posted).

You will probably find Neil that you will be pestered by Tope whilst fishing for the Rays, like we were on the Species Hunt Comp. !!

I find that they tend to come out to play either side of slack water.

And don't worry if you do not have any fresh mackerel, they were taking our frozen Squid!!

Good lick,

Greg

It'd be nice greg if they did, but we fish the Solent and tope don't get caught there, hence we have to make the long journey to not find them

Ok, so Leo and I gave it another go today. Left Hamble at 07.45 and arrived 3 miles south of the needles around 09.10.
Found our spot, dropped the anchor in anticipation, with positivity and excitement.
Nothing.
One conger to 12lb and 7 dogs.
£150 in diesel burnt .
But on the plus side, it was a gorgeous day (once the swell settled at around 10.30am).

Ben was out at the weekend
He reports a few on Saturday

Back to same place on Sunday and got smashed up by a shark.
It went dead for an hour afterwards, but then he started getting tope.

Sorry that you and Leo missed out again.

Thanks Charlie for the commiserations. It's great to hear Ben got some action, but doesn't make me feel any less inadequate!!

Perhaps we should set up a trip

on a small tide in nice weather.

It cannot be the weekend of 20th as that is Dan's wedding day and I would like him to come with us.

That'd be a good idea!!
I'm busy on the 20th anyway, so will be a September date.
Congrats to Dan btw!!
