Adam F Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Does anyone know about these? Mariner Marathon 75hp 2stroke. The boat I may be looking at has one fitted, I'm not too familier with them. The guy says it is an ex RNLI unit. Are they as good / better than the std units? Whats the differnce? Also if a boat is anti-fouled, can this be removed and the hull bought back to original clean gel coat? - if so how easy is it? Adam Quote
shytalk Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 have a look on mariners website there is a page all about 75 marathon outboards , it is possible to clean the antifoul off but it is very messy and time consuming and the hull would not look like new as it should if done right have been scuffed up prior to the original antifoul being applied, very little is impossible with grp it is just a case of how much time and money you throw at it !!! great white Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Hi Adam the 75HP Mariner 2 strokes we had in the Navy were good engines. Although we did not have many they shared many simular components to the 40 Hp 2 cylinder which is a very good outboard. As to the removing of antifoul. As peter said it can be done in a variety of ways 1 Scraped and sanded 2 Chemically removed 3 Wet blasted off but you will not know what the hull is like underneath The hull should either have been roughed up or a chemical GRP primer used to fuse into the gellcoat. Therefore the removal will not leave you a shiny smooth hull. Hope that helps Charlie Quote
