jerry.shutter Posted Tuesday at 07:42 AM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:42 AM I have a dubious friend in Norfolk who used to do something different for his beaters on beaters day, a few years back of course he did seal for the beaters on beaters day, it was disgusting and burnt for nearly a week on the bbq wrecking it because of the blubber!!!!!! seagull and cormmorant have also featured and were also revolting, only a vague casual friend you understand!!! plaicemat Posted Wednesday at 09:54 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:54 AM I wonder, if cormorants are part of the problem, whether it may be worth trying deeper spots in the harbour such as along the side of the main channel where we used to go for plaice and flounders. I haven't noticed that many of the black buggers up there. Terry. Jim, sparky, great white and 1 other 4 Quote
sparky Posted Wednesday at 01:49 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:49 PM I think this problem started with the netting of flounders for pot bait a few years ago. Then the addition of seals in there ( bass nursery area ???) and the explosion of cormorants / shags is doing the fish stocks catastrophic damage which may never come back with all this predation......but what do I know , the " EXPERTS " seem to think there's no problem !!! jerry.shutter, great white, Greg and 4 others 7 Quote
Kingfisher 126 Posted Wednesday at 05:16 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 05:16 PM Mick, since you’ve retired you have too much time on your hands and have put a bit of logic together and made some sense there. Careful you maybe asked to oversee a flounder re establishment programme for the harbour. 👍👏 Jim, gaffa, Maverick Martin and 2 others 2 3 Quote
Mal Thomas Posted Thursday at 07:48 AM Report Posted Thursday at 07:48 AM I think you have summed that up, one thing to add is pollution and I think it is a big one. boyscott 1 Quote
Greg Posted Thursday at 08:08 AM Report Posted Thursday at 08:08 AM Apparently the bait draggers have been struggling to get rag worms in Holes Bay. Either they have been over dredged or the amount of rain water in flow into the harbour has made the rag worms go deeper into the mud. Either way, if there is little food there will be equally fewer fish present! This may just be a bad year due to the amount of rain we have had. If one thing is for sure, Mother Nature will sort it out 👍 Jim 1 Quote

I think I have an answer, how about using cormorants for pot bait? Win/win? Terry. fisherman1055, Jim, Greg and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Release in the harbour. I don't think the Grockles will be impressed though. 😃 Greg, 2006holmwood and sparky 1 2 Quote
great white Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago I believe that using seals as bait is not allowed. Even in areas with Great Whites and abundant seals. But I may be wrong. Jim 1 Quote
Jim Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago Besides which, you need them for your outdrive leg Charlie. 😁 We'd be in a mess without seals. 🤪 Quote
