Chain to 8 strand Anchor Plait rope splice.

I have just replaced the finger kit on my Lowrance X2 Windlass as it had shattered. This would appear to be because some of the chain links are slightly out line due to wear and tear. 

 

The original splicing and whipping was done some eight years ago by Pete at Quay West at Parkstone Bay Marina.  He no longer does this.

 

Does anyone know a good splicer in the Poole/Cobbs area?

It may be worth popping into Cobbs chandlery and asking Geoff if he knows anyone.

If not there are a couple of riggers down there that should be able to help out. 🤞all these people are getting thinned out now bless them.  😇

Thanks. I asked him about seven years ago and he recommended Pete. However, things could well have changed since then.

Pete would have been my go too, I have never done multiplait so cannot help.

Pete is still there, but is trying to wind down a bit.

I believe he did this on Alans boat last time but no longer does that sort of thing as he gets more senior in years

I have a friend at Cobbs who was recently informed by Pete that if he took his rope and chain/anchor down he would splice it.
I WhatsApp my friend Yesterday after reading Alan’s post and he is surprised he is not able to do it ???

I need a chain splice not a back splice and it is quite physically demanding with all the cross whipping as you are lifting a couple of feet of chain all the time plus trying to get the links  lined up. A back splice which is rope into rope is less physical but as I have 14 mm. rope, I have been advised that it could be too bulky to easily pass the finger.

Mike Hall has someone who used to work at Salterns who says he can do it. I will post how I get on.

 

If not, I have spoken to Jimmy Green Marine who will do it if I can get it to them. Could be an excuse for a couple of days in Devon ?

No joy locally. Plenty of people locally will do 3 strand anchor splice but not 8 strand.
