Graham Nash Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Guys n Gals, I dont ever remember applying for an MMSI number, but checking on the club database that I've recently been made guardian of, It would seem that I had one when I first joined 20 years ago. I did have a radio license although I have absolutely zero idea where that might be now! I have however changed my boat 3 times since then and have just recently changed my radio. On setting up the new radio, it asked for my MMSI number (which I didn't realise I had) so I skipped that bit for now. Is there a way I can find out if that MMSI number is registered to me, my boat, the radio or what? Thanks in advance. Quote
Rob Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 I think it is per boat, not person..... I guess you request a new one.R Quote

Mal Thomas Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Graham, it is good practice to have your MMSI printed in large easy read text by your radio and your frenetic spelling of your boat name for help when you may be stressed and can't think straight. Graham Nash, Kingfisher 126 and Jim 3 Quote

I spoke with a very helpful guy who pointed me in the right direction. You are right, the MMSI is to the boat so I applied for a copy of my license (with updated address and boat details) and a new MMSI number and call sign. All downloaded and in my new "boat" file in my office. Quote

Maverick Martin Posted Wednesday at 02:54 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:54 PM Found online: How to Change MMSI Owner Details in the UK In the UK, you cannot simply “transfer” an MMSI to yourself — you must apply for a new Ship Radio licence in your name, which will generate a new MMSI number, or amend the existing licence if the vessel’s licence is already in your name Ofcom Quote
Maverick Martin Posted Wednesday at 02:56 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 02:56 PM Is the boat registered on the small ships register? most arn't but should you wish to go abroad or the channel islands it would need to be Quote
Martin Terry Posted Wednesday at 03:12 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:12 PM Thank you, no it is not on the Small Ships Register. Will pursue the OFCOM route. Quote
