Paul D Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Does anyone have anything I can determine the diameter of the tip of my 30lb Solid-C rod. I need to know this in order to purchase a replacement tip ring. Quote

Newboy Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 The easisest and cheapest way is by using a lump od blue tag, mould it halp way round the rod and then measure it. Quote
plaicemat Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Paul, I took mine into a local tackle shop and they had a guage to determine the size. Most of them have these as they come with their initial stock of rings. Hope this helps. My guess would be 3mm. Terry. Quote
duncan Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 exactly the sort of reason I have a caliper set in my tool box........but that's not a lot of use for you.................. if we are guessing I would go at 2.5mm and whilst KAm's suggestion is ingenious I suspect it would be prone to too much error because of the blue tacks ability to stretch............hmmmmm blue tack........... right tested method - take large blob of blue tack and press the rod tip area into it to create a groove which accurately reflects the width - don't try and unroll etc but simply measure across the groove carefully with a ruler. Sorted. Quote
Paul J Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Paul, Take it round to Dave ( soleman) he'll be able to sort it PJ Quote
plaicemat Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 I gussed at 3mm because my 10-20lb was 2.5mm. I look forward to learning the real figure. Terry. Quote
Maverick Martin Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Why not try putting your eyes on and using a tape measure works for me Quote
Wedger Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Paul I have a vernier/caliper........ I'll bring it along to 'the big meet'.............. if I remember Wedge Quote
Maverick Martin Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 or use a compass (drawing type) to get the size then read it off a tape or wait until Thursday and use Trevors Vernier/caliper. Quote
Gazza Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Do you still have the old one ? If you do try offering up the old eye to 2.5mm or 3mm drill bit...... If not try drilling 2.5mm hole and 3mm hole in a piece of stiff card......and offering up to rod tip. whats the best fit? Gary Quote
Adam F Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Paul, I have a vernier if you need it - but easier is to take the rod down to the shop.. Adam Quote
Newboy Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 Or, measure the circumference and then divide it by 3.1415...... Quote

Brian Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 Unless they've changed it since I was at school, Kam's correct. 3.141592654...................etc. Quote
Wedger Posted December 3, 2006 Report Posted December 3, 2006 I thought someone would bite............ Nice one Brian & sorry Kam.. This cabin fever is a B1TCH........... Quote
Brian Posted December 4, 2006 Report Posted December 4, 2006 (edited) Wedger That's the trouble, weather's so bad I've got too much time on my hands!! Not that the difference would have any effect on which rod ring to buy, they're not sized that accurately. Edited December 4, 2006 by Brian Quote
