wotu2uk Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Nothing to do with topic, really, but ... All of the class 1 boats have gone back to 4 str piston engines, so the 210mph record will probably stand for a long time Quote
great white Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 Interesting trawling through these old threads. Etec still running ok on Neo ( well, was last time she was out months ago ) Thinking I could do with a service as it is 3 years nice last one. Problems experienced to date [li]Gasket leak - repaired under warranty[/li] [li]broken catch on cover -repaired under warranty[/Li] [li]tacho stopped working[/li] Two services can't recall exact cost but was less than the annual one I needed on the Honda 6 years in and all ok so far. Ps. I have to say all is well as actually considering selling Neo Answers the questions at the start about what they will be like in a few years This thread has run for 6 years Some interesting names from the past at the start Quote
Gnasher Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I was only looking at the youtube footage last week and actually tjought of this thread! Strange that a week after, it appears on the forum. Quote
Swainiac Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 So......how does the E-Tec fare in 2015 Paul? Am just wondering as I intend to buy a warrior for inshore stuff down here Rich Quote
Rob Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 Paul D doesn't have a boat anymore, but PJ has had an ETec for yrs. Quote
Brian Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 I've got a Suzuki DF70 on my Warrior, it's brilliant. I was going to have an ETEC, but when I ordered my boat from Warrior, they wouldn't fit an ETEC. I'd have had to buy the boat less engine and then get an ETEC fitted. As I wanted a complete package, so if there were any problems there would be no arguing who was to blame. As it happens I'm pleased that was the case, as I can't fault the Suzuki, so quiet I often forget to stop he engine and very economical. Quote
plaicemat Posted June 21, 2015 Report Posted June 21, 2015 I've recently changed the engine on my Warrior and also gone for a Suzuki DF70, couldn't be more pleased. Very quiet and so much more economical than my old 2 stroke. Quote
Jim Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 So......how does the E-Tec fare in 2015 Paul? Am just wondering as I intend to buy a warrior for inshore stuff down here Rich I had an E-Tec 75 ( same physical lump as 90 ) on my Warrior. I was very pleased with it. Never had any trouble. It used to tick over smoothly. Good on fuel. But I believe there was a problem with the plastic casings on the early ones. ( O.K. now I believe ) When I changed over to my little Tiddler, I believed all the hyp and went for a Honda. Yes it's a very good engine. Smooth, quiet, economical on fuel. But Flaming Hell ! ! ! you have to have it serviced after 10 hours use ( just as well cos they'd built it with a gearbox seal the wrong way round and was taking in water ) then every 12 months after that even if it's hardly been used. £360 per year ! ! ! The E-Tec is every 3 years so if you're capable of a visual inspection in - between services that makes more sense ( to me ) If I was doing it again, I'd definitely go for the E-Tec. I'm no expert this is purely my opinion. Jim Hooky 1 Quote
Brian Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 £360 a service? Where do you have it done? My Suzuki cost me £250 including a new impeller in Dec 2013 and £220 in Dec 2014 and they came to the boat both times.. Quote
Jim Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Poole Marine services ! ! Not good is it ? ? ? Quote
Jim Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Although last time I didn't have it done by them and it was half that ! ! Yes it was done by a qualified engineer. Quote
Sam Posted June 23, 2015 Report Posted June 23, 2015 Sounds like you both need to talk to Dan. Cheaper price better job Quote
plaicemat Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 Talking of Dan, could we have an engine advice section in the Boat Talk section, obviously hosted by Dan. He would, at least, be able to advise people on whether to attempt a fix themselves or seek professional help. Brian 1 Quote
Brian Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 I'll have to have a talk with Dan, my service is due in Dec. Quote
Sam Posted June 24, 2015 Report Posted June 24, 2015 I think you would have to discuss that with Dan terry, could be something he is interested in, Brian he will be at the club bbq, make sure you tell him who is doing his advertising for him so he at least buys me a beer sam Brian 1 Quote
Paul D Posted June 24, 2015 Author Report Posted June 24, 2015 Hi Rich - long time no see. I was well pleased with the E-Tec, I had no problems with the engine at all. PJ has the same model as I had and I know he had issues with the EMU but was fine after he had it replaced. The servicing costs for my old Honda was partly the reason I went for the E-Tec. my friend has a 130 E-Tec on his Orkney and is well happy with his too. It seems to be the people who dont have them that knock them. Jim and Coddy 2 Quote
