Paul J Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Due to the weather forecast for this weekend being so poor we are consdering the possibility of postponing the Open Comp. The decision will be made early Friday evening with the aim of updating you all by around 8pm. It's is changing all the time so there is still hope but i wouldn't bet on it just yet. Fingers crossed and will update you Friday evening Cheers Paul Quote
Wedger Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 Paul, My chart is not big enough to show this properly, so can you help? I'll be fishing out of Puerto Mogan, Gran Canaria......... Is that within 'club waters'............ and........ do you have alternative weigh in points other than Baiter?..... ....... Quote
alun j. Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 What about all those worms ordered\ dragged for\ dug?? Someone recently mentioned won't be happy with a cancelation... after extra effort to help! There'd be less of a problem if there was somewhere other than Baiter to launch and organise from ....... as there's always somewhere [relatively] sheltered in the harbour. Any suggestions?? Alun. Maverick Martin Posted November 28, 2007 Report Posted November 28, 2007 There'd be less of a problem if there was somewhere other than Baiter to launch and organise from ....... as there's always somewhere [relatively] sheltered in the harbour. Any suggestions?? Alun. There is nowhere in Poole where boats can be launched at reasonable cost. Baiter is the only half decent public slipway. We could of course use Cobbs but who wants to pay Quote
Adam F Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 They are forecasting 40 knot winds, 6m seas and torrential rain for sunday. If I was able to fish, and it was on, I wouldnt - even if I launched safely, Ive fished the harbour in a F8 and it aint very nice - even dangerous in places where you have a fair bit of fetch. It isnt ideal, but saftey is no1 priority IMO , plus it would be a shame to have a average turnout consdiering all the effort put in by so many people. Quote
Sinbad Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 That new club markee / gazebo, will sure look a strange sight in the skys, as it goes off like a kite, with Martin and Bob and others holding on to the legs.... I've sussed out my swim already, nicely backing onto pyc Shoreline, in the lee of the Marina, boat tied up front and back to the pontoon Hot Roast Sunday lunch, washed down with a few pints Fuel consumption - nil. Paul D Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 Latest forecast attached. Pretty colours aren't there Quote
duncan Posted November 29, 2007 Report Posted November 29, 2007 yep - my grib service is giving similar added factor will be 0 visibility for a few hours around midday as well on Sunday due to the heavy rain and wind. the boatyard have agreed to move Phaeton somewhere safer...... Quote
great white Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Hey Paul I thought I said not to give out our secret marks Have any of you course fisherman got any bite alarms that we could hear in the bar?? Charlie Quote
great white Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Paul I see that one is for avon Beach, where is that? I would not like to be there this weekend The Poole Harbour one is bad enough [i would add it but I do not know how] Charlie Quote
Sam Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 it is not very nice prediction we have everyone in the marina bringing down extra ropes for the boats and all there covers being tied down in my opinion it would be silly to have the comp sam Quote
Paul D Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Charlie, Avon Baech is the one next to the run at Christchurch harbour. Due to its proximity, I would expect the forecast to be almost identical. Quote
TomBettle Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Charlie, Avon Baech is the one next to the run at Christchurch harbour. Due to its proximity, I would expect the forecast to be almost identical. It's the wave heights that I think Charlie was referring to! Quote
Paul D Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Official : - COMPETITION IS POSTPONED AND WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON - 16th DECEMBER ( Posted For Paul J as he has no access to the site at the moment ) Quote
great white Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Thanks Paul, an early decision is helpful I am sure that I speak for many, we all wanted to fish this competition but I have not spoken to anyone who wanted to be battered and bruised doing so. Thanks to all the organising committee for your hard work, lets hope for a much better forecast on the 16th. I am going to phone all those that I know who were going to fish and do not use the forum. Can I remind others to do the same Best regards Charlie Quote
Mike Fox Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Thanks Paul - can you pop a sticker on the Home Page poster? Mike Quote
Paul J Posted November 30, 2007 Author Report Posted November 30, 2007 Paul, Many thanks for getting this up early While disappointing, it was a relativley easy decision to make, thanks to all those who assisted. Could we amend the Forum calender entry also please. Thanks Paul Quote
duncan Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 early call is helpfull - clearly disappointing givne all the arrangements by the committee and individuals having sold thier souls for the fishing time too.........guess I had better go and look at the jobs list again - for some reason 'postponed' doesn;t automatically carry over the permission! Quote
Swainiac Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 duly noted, thanks for the early heads up on this one, I am still available for committee duties on the new date. Rich Quote
Paul D Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 Could we amend the Forum calender entry also please. Forum calendar is broken - ( This has been broken since we moved servers I think - some software changes needed - on the case now .... ) Quote
duncan Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 can't understand this weather thing - OK this was a whole 5 days ago but looking at the next 5 days it will be a faint memory before we see the likes again! Quote
JIMBOB Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 (edited) Good call I didn't like the prospect of launching the boat in winds pushing 50mph with driving rain I cant fish the 16th tho I'm taking the missus to see Wet Wet Wet!
