Mike Fox Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Is anyone fishing the Poole Dolphins SAC Open Boat Cod & Flounder Competition? This is on Sunday Dec 30th 2007. I fished it last year, as did a few others, and rocked and rolled off the Needles car park in SW5-6 with a big swell on Neo with Paul Dore. Am still surprised at the nature of specimen comps...my 9lb cod wasn't even eligible to weigh in last Sunday, yet might have been a winner for this one. Not sure my constitution is up for another battering! Mike Quote
great white Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I am going in to see Andy later and will try and get an update on rules times etc for this one Weather permitting we may be able to take part Charlie Quote
Swainiac Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Charlie, if there is a spare seat, I will be available for this one also. Rich Quote
duncan Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Ah it's on the 30th this year is it? Normally the 28th or am I confusing it with another Poole Cod Comp? Are there 2? Can you guarantee a F1-2 NW? I am never never fishing for flounders again............ boat fishing in 2ft of water isn't boat fishing! Quote
Adam F Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I'm with you Duncan! Plus, for the first time in 8 years, I'm not stocktaking this year so I'll also be able to fish the Cod comp. Quote

Paul D Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I will be looking for crew / looking to crew to fish this. Anyone interested / offering a space then PM me. ( Preferably someone who can book me in at Poole en-route to Lymington for a Needles cod and quick return to Mariner for weigh in once huge cod is caught ! but not a pre-requisite as they say - beggars can't be choosers ). Paul D Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 BTW: The poster for this comp is now on the front page of the site. Quote
Member Removed Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I've been fishing this for the last ???? years from charter boats. The last 3 on board Shiela's promise. This will be the first year for me aboard a private boat. For what it's worth..... we had the second place cod on our boat last year which was only beaten by an oz or 2. Get this, it was caught about 1/2 a mile off Ballard!!! We started much further out & moved in over the day as we got battered I can't remember a good year! Quote
great white Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Thanks Martin for the info I was in the shop yesterday and discussed this with Andy Just to make sure all are aware you can only weigh in flounder or cod and only one fish of whichever species. Andy says he will be doing a deal on squid if you pre book bait but please if you book worms through him cancel early or take them . he was Quote
great white Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Rich If I can go I may have a space but it depends on if Sam is working and if Wendy likes the weather. It may be a late minute decision after Christmas, are you OK with that? Charlie Quote
Neal Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 I have also fished it for the last few years - but on charter boats. This year I have a cunning plan......... my secret weapon - I have invited my mate with the golden balls - the jammy sod who won last year to join me. He used his own boat - and all his crew got seasick last year in the very lumpy conditions - so he came back in to the end of the swash. He went to sleep in the cabin leaving his crew to recover and carry on fishing for a couple of hours. On waking up, declared OK boys one last chuck and in we go. I'm never doing this again moan moan moan - baited up and dropped down. Threw all the rest of the bait over the side and started cleaning up the boat. Bang ........ Cod on (his first ever) and competition won and Quote
duncan Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Neal, Paul J won the previous year - but put a little more effort into it than your mate; never stopped preparing his baits all day long! Quote
great white Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Weather is not looking bad Need to check which of the Family fancy it and are available. Rich can you call me on Friday to arrange Does anyone know if its set fishing times as previous years? and what are the rules about number of Rods/hooks? Tight Lines Charlie Quote
Adam F Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I'm planning on fishing but a little unsure about the weather - F8 gales today and Sat with it dying off to F4-5 westerlies, but with a 2.5m sea.... will it flatten off in time? Quote
duncan Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 I am tracking a window of much better winds at the moment but it's small and local. I absolutely agree about the residual swell etc............ Quote
great white Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Hi I hope that the lull in the weather comes in as forecast and that we can get out Sam has checked today with Andy who says that its start fishing as soon you can after registration. It is apparently 1 Rod max 3 hooks Rich if the weather plays ball we will be going, call me or let me know a good time to call you. Tight lines Charlie Quote
Swainiac Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Charlie, if the place is still available, I'd love to join you guys, will be a good break from the situation here at home!!!! You can choose friends but you cant choose family!!! Rich Quote
great white Posted December 28, 2007 Report Posted December 28, 2007 Hi Rich That great it will be good to have you aboard, we just need the winds to ease as it sounds like the roof is about to come off. and we need to confirm timings etc Charlie Quote
