Brian Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 What's to stop anyone having a central heating tank installed at home, having a tanker come and fill it, then use jerry cans to ferry it to the boat as required? The oil company don't know whether or not you've got oil fired central heating. Quote
Adam F Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Brian, Ive also wondered about this. I have oil fired heating as we cant get mains gas here. I had it filled this week - 1000 ltrs - Quote

djredrupp Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Kerosene - I dont know how this varies from white / red diesel? kerosine is a different hydrocarbon length to diesel or petrol, comming out of the refraction collumn at a different stage, so is not the same thing. its generally used as aircraft fuel! dont know if you can use it safely in a diesel though! duncan Posted March 16, 2008 Report Posted March 16, 2008 yup thats my plan martin which one the heating oil or Tescos? fortunately Phaeton has a diesel heater (in case I need to take on the occasional litre or two in Poole) and a main tank large enough to plan on filling up in Cherbourg, Braye or St PP most of the time. I also have the option of swapping the fresh water tank for another 140 litre fuel tank plus auxillary 80 litre temporary storage capacity in the same area. overall this would mean adding another 220 kg which is well within the boats operating tolerance - but will reduce the capacity for guests........... consideration is currently underway regarding coding and a small business that might just make a profit - or not. I'm not happy about the railings but the main safety equipement is a no brainer and the liferaft can be installed on the roof acording to the manufacturer. could be booking in for the first aid and sea survival courses sooner than anticipated! great white Posted March 17, 2008 Report Posted March 17, 2008 My boat was made to code just needs a few bits if that is the route we take charlie Quote
toerag Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 Over here we have 2 grades of heating oil - '28 second' which is diesel, and '35 second' which is kerosene. My mate has 2 tanks in his garden which 4 of us use as a syndicate for our boats. There's no worries about measurement as we all use 25litre cans or drums to transport it to the boats. Makes your arms ache carrying 100l of fuel 100m down a pontoon though! Quote
mw Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 what is the cost now Iwas down salters today diesel at 82 litre mark w Quote
