bootlegger Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 If this has been mentioned elsewhere sorry to bore you. I don't know if many members took part in the Bream Comp, or indeed if they are interested in the result. But, the bream are still on the patches in large numbers. We fished around the marks with the pick down and on the drift. Wots the point boated 60+ fish on four hours, 42 were bream, the largest being just under 3 pounds. The winner of the comp was a fish of 3lb 10 ozs just under a pound less than the winning fish last year however over 40 fish over 3lb were weighed. We missed out on the prize table by a couple of ounces. Numbers of competitors appeared to be down from last year, which given the great weather was surprising, however it appears that in some quarters alot of lads were bored bashing bream and some crews were heading off between the two piers to drift for plaice and were not taking part. alun j. Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 Gastronaught fished the comp. and joined 20 + boats on Christchurch Ledge [ some were club boats and some were definitely in the comp as well]. The bream fishing was much slower than described above.... and mostly smaller fish. Our best went to Rob......... but only after we moved away from the throng at a certain spot and tried a few of my preferred marks. at the end of the day we had more lively action pulling up a few good size pollack, whilst searching for BBQ mackeral [ but they were thin on the ground]. Bonus for the day ....... a bass for Rob...good size 'keeper', if a bit thin.....Gastronaught awaits tasting notes!! Alun. Quote
Manic Moore Posted May 12, 2008 Report Posted May 12, 2008 One of my fishing buddies and a PBSBAC member Will Summerill won the comp with a 3lb 14oz fish and his fishing partner also won a prize. They had a huge haul of bream. A real red letter day Quote

Jim Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 My Son Steve has gone on Holiday to Majorca. So I was going to post on here for crew on Small Fry for the Bream Comp. But I asked fellow new Member, Dave with " Wight Magic " if he had room for one more. He did have - - - and he's got a cooker ! Well what a fantastic Day ! We went off to Kimmeridge and were catching Bream all day. I got sunburnt and am itching like crazy now. One of the crew, Pat won 3rd ( i think ) Dave ( skipper ) won a fishing rod. His son, Dean won a selection of line. I weighed in 2lb 9oz. Every fish I had on Sunday were PB's for me, I've only ever had small Bream before. Thanks to Dave for a great Day. If anyone get's an offer to crew with him - take him up on it ! I'm trying to upload some pictures but I think the files are too big. Jim Quote
Jim Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Right! I've sorted the file size, But I'm B*ggered if I can work out how to upload pictures. My resident I T bloke ( my son ) has gone on holiday - - - - - - HEEEEEEELP ! Quote
Paul D Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Easiest way is to attach the file. Second way is to post the image on the Photo Album ( using the photo gallery button at the top of the page ) then right click the photo you want to refer to and get the URL. Then paste the URL between and IMG tag ( using the IMG button ). Grab me a t a club meeting and I will show you how to do this ( assuming Bob F has his laptop ) Quote

Things like Facebook and e-bay (I think) sort out filesize for you when you upload. I guess I'm lazy but I would also call myself pretty I.T savvy, however, I often give up on uploading photos to the gallery after reducing the filesize, trying to upload, having it fail a couple of times... Sorry to hijack the post! Well done on your efforts in the comp gents. Edited May 13, 2008 by charlieannear Quote
Paul D Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Better photoalbum software means we would have to pay for it. As in most things in life you get what you pay for Quote

Gas Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Abode 11 clan fished the Bream comp as well. We fished Dancing ledge when we arrived we were the 3rd boat there I had the first Bream 1 lb 8oz. Then a lone mackerel closely followed by a doggie by this time there was now 22 boats. Fishing went dead for a couple of hours then Jackie had the biggest of the day 2lb 9oz. At this time boats started to move to other marks we stayed until 2.30 as Ashley and Chelsea had no fish we went back to Poole patches and hit about 20 Bream all small 1lb +. Arrived late so we missed the weighing in. Just in time for the presentation and the curry. Craig Quote
Neal Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 John and I fished the comp on Court Jester. Having had no luck at Dancing Ledge 2 weeks earlier, we decided to head for Christchurch Ledge. Seeing a number of Charter boats heading in the same direction I raced "Crazy Fred" across the bay to get to my one and only mark on the Ledge. As we arrived I noticed a boat 50 yds away pulling in bream - however, even with groundbait - not a bite. Alun and Rob on Gasronaught helpfully came alongside and anounced that we were in the wrong place and he shot off to the "right place" (I saw your report Alun!!! After a couple of hours watching the boat alongside pulling bream after bream aboard and pretty much all the other boats leaving - I thought it best to follow. Nothing showing on Southbourne Rough so went further west to join another group of Boats on another mark. Success at last - now it was our turn to catch Bream after Bream We ended up with a Dozen or so males between 1.5lb to 2 lb and a couple of larger females about 2.5lb - I knew that winning fish would be 3lb plus so they went back. As the tide slackened so the fish got smaller and smaller. So with nothing to weigh in - went back to see what had been caught. Neal Quote
Mike Fox Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Well done Will, all who got to the prize table, and others that took part! First weekend of the year for us, and entry seemed foolhardy! Jim - yes, it was me. Am afraid that Frisky is somewhat constrained by both air draught and speed, but it floats, we dangle, and the odd fish comes over the side. All boats are a compromise, and ermmmm ours is probably unique in the club. Mike Quote
Jim Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Going back a few years, My Dad had a 27ft Sabre. He kept it over Wareham. Many a happy time I had on it. These days I just like to point and Go ! All those bits of rope and Knots, - - - - -too much for me. I'll be watching out for you now ! See ya, Jim Quote
